What We Deserved: Commodores Plummet in Polls

For those of you who've been nostalgic for the days when Vanderbilt was perceived as a low-to-cusp Top 25 team, congrats: After Sunday's disaster in Memorial, the Commodores are right back in the thick of the non-conversation, just like old times. A matter of months after becoming the first team in history to be knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in the first round three times in a row when coming in as a 5-seed or better, Vanderbilt is once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons, falling 13 spots in the first regular-season Coaches' Poll to #20 and 11 spots in the AP Poll to #18.

Does it sting?  Yes.  Do we deserve this?  Yes.  Will this take the pressure of expectations off this team and allow them to forget about the hype and just loosen up and play hard?  We'll find out soon enough.

No point in lying - this is a much more accurate representation of where this team is, especially without Festus Ezili in the middle. And if they don't absolutely club Bucknell, I'm going to seriously start to question where this team is headed. Nobody with this many seniors should EVER look like the kind of team we saw on Sunday.

i used to chant "FIRE TED CAIN" at all the football games and was occasionally ridiculed. But i felt bad for teh players and thought they deserved better.I am over trying to be MR Nice guy when it comes to VU coaches. If CKS does get it done this year he should be fired... period.

i may regret flying to nj this weekend for the remainder of the ticketcity classic. i bought Monday's sessions too! i knew i bought into this team way too early. i drank the kool-aid and it will probably screw me.

I'm typically pessimistic, but I believe CKS and the team will look in the mirror and this will be a wake up call as one of the other posters noted.

Do they really need a "wake up call"? I would have thought coming out flat in the tournament the last two seasons would be sufficient. We need a new coach and/or more assertive leaders on the floor if we ever hope to see this team realize its potential. Typing this, I remember us having the same exact conversation after our most recent 1st round tourney exit - so I guess some things really have not changed, and maybe we were foolish to expect that they would.

Still, so much talent...

Also, amazing how committed that one iteration of "Anonymous" is to getting an American Idol reference into every post.
