If, Theoretically, Vanderbilt Played UNC in a Basketball Scrimmage Sunday, And Theoretically, They Won, What Would You Think of That...Theoretically?

The blogosphere is aflutter about a top secret scrimmage that took place yesterday between the Commodores and the Tar Heels. VandySports.com's message board has something on the alleged game (dorepleganger's post 3 from the top is particularly insightful), as does WildCatNation, a Kentucky blog that just finished salivating over King Cal's coronation press conference.

UPDATE: According to commenters and other sites A.J. Ogilvy did not play Sunday because he is recovering from a concussion, but Festus looked good. Perhaps more important than the team being successful without AJ, Vanderbilt, including freshman Jeff Jenkins, lit it up from the outside. Imagine how good such a potent outside threat will be with AJ on the blocks?

I get that this was just a scrimmage, but if this doesn't make you excited, then you really have to ask yourself if you are reading the right site.

It's so hard not to get hyped up by some of that discussion, but at the same time it's pretty unreliable.

Win the real ones, then I'll be happy.

Whether they won or not, the fact that Vanderbilt is (and has been) doing this sort of thing at all is really great. During the broadcast of the Kentucky exhibition game last night, Kyle Macy said several times that Calipari and the Cats are considering running closed scrimmages instead of exhibition games against NAIA schools because the competition is much better. I agree, and bravo to Stallings and the Dores for taking the lead on the practice.

Vandy beat UNC by quite a bit. Im not going to relay what the premium UNC forums say, other then our guards are good. And AJ didnt even play.

That's what I've read as well. I'm ready to stop reading about what this team is doing and start SEEING what this team can do. Bring on the basketball season!!

What a load of crap. If UNC and Vandy play in an actual game this year, and UNC doesn't win by double figures, I'll atone for my alma mater by shaving all my body hair. Ed Davis takes craps that have more game than AJ Ogilvy.

Dr MZ,

Will you put the video of you shaving your hair on youtube? It would be good for laughs. But alas the only chance of them playing is in the NCAA Tourney. So we can hope for that. Don't be sad that Vandy is good.

Ooooh, double figures? Way to set the bar high, Dr. If the Commies can play any kind of interior defense at all, I'd say the Heels would have their hands full this season. I'm looking forward to a tournament matchup!

The good doctor does raise a point, even though he raised in a despicable and tactless manner.

This game doesn't mean anything. Seriously it's a coaching tool. That's all there is to it. If we beat them on the floor in an exhibition game or during the regular season that would be one thing. The only value you can take out of this game is that the team supposedly played very well AS A UNIT. That's really the only thing you can evaluate as far as performance.

As for you Doc, I preferred it when you were raining on Tennessee fans' parades, not ours.

From Twitter: Is this the play-by-play from the secret Vandy-UNC Scrimmage? UNC apparently loses 82-69. http://bit.ly/HsYis

i just wanna see us do well at st marys and maui. then i will believe. and who knows how good unc really is. they have talent but they lost almost everybody and we got everybody back plus got to play in australia together. i just hope we play really well this year. would be awesome to go undefeated at home and have some major success on the road. vandy often wins at home, but the road kills us. this year will be a test....
