Vanderbilt Hotline: Is it Football Season Yet?

Commodore Fans, the sad reality is that we have hit a lull. Vanderbilt got 5 shots in the "One Shining Moment" montage last night, and apparently CKS will be our coach for at least another season after turning down the Iowa job. I waxed poetic about what I think Stallings is thinking last night, you should check it out (or don't, whatever).

I've said it several times, but I really can't stress enough how important it is for everyone reading this to buy at least one copy of the Athlon College Football Preview with Vanderbilt on the cover. As of this posting, Vanderbilt has sold 520 copies. We need 1,000 in order for the covers to go to print and have until April 5th (Thursday) to make it happen. I have spoken to several of you who assured me that "you're going to buy it when you get home, I promise". Starting tomorrow, if I haven't received a forwarded copy of your receipt for at least one copy, and you said you would buy it, I will be publishing a black list containing all the names of the slacker Commie fans who can't part with a measly 9 dollars for a piece of Commodore history. I don't want to do this, you don't want me to do this...let's not let it get to that point. Just buy the magazine.

Congratulations to Seamus' mom for winning the Vanderbilt Sports Line Bracket Challenge. Bobby's mommie finished just behind Team Williams. Bobby finished a very respectable 7th, with Seamus finishing 14th. Sosa Thomas (if that's your real name), you finished last, which means you need to write a poem about our winner, Team Williams. We will be posting parameters later today (or tomorrow about what the poem entails). The poem will be posted on VSL and read on the next VSL Podcast.

If you haven't read the Stanimal's 10 Thoughts on the Black and Gold Scrimmage, you are crazy. It's fantastic stuff and a must read.

Seamus highlight's that Vanderbilt Baseball is back on top, ranked #1 in the Rivals.com, Baseball America, and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll after taking 2 out of 3 at South Carolina. Jarred Amato's got a piece in the Hustler today as well.

Carla Thomas was one of 22 players invited to WNBA camp, I guess my invitation got lost in the mail...thanks WNBA.

American Idol has Tony Bennett on this week, as we whittle down to the Elite Eight (sorry, I'm clearly already starting to go through withdrawal). Be on the look out for Anonymous commenting on how American Idol sucks. Don't worry, it's still as unfunny now as it was the first time.

Vanderbilt has sold 14 covers since this post went up. Not bad, but we can do better. Don't end up with your name on the VSL Wall of Shame.

Big push from somewhere, Vanderbilt is up to 595 covers sold.

Doesn't the transitive property of sports apply to last night's abomination?

Chad made this point in an email to Seamus and I earlier today. The transitive property seems less applicable in basketball and less applicable to last night than the BCS National Championship game in January. Still, here was Chad's take:

Ted Skuchas is better than Greg Oden. Ok, maybe that is a stretch. If
you combine the two Vandy/Florida games this year - Vandy outscored Florida 147 - 144. Florida outscored Ohio State 170 - 135. That has to be worth something, right? Vandy was the only team to beat Florida by more than 10 points all year.

I like where Chad's head is. Congratulations to Vanderbilt, transitively better than Ohio State, and a De Facto Final Four team. Quite a journey gentlemen, quite a journey.

Speaking of which, how bout that Skuchas block that made the shining moments montage? No one has discussed it in this forum yet, but the level of cheese (always on display during said song) was exceptional for that clip.

"Feel the beat of your heart" [shot of Joakim Noah pounding his chest if I remember correctly], "feel the wind in your face" [shot of Skuchas blocking Hibbert and then blowing his floppy hair out of his face like a little kid].

Loved every second of it.
