Vanderbilt Hotline: Bob Costas Edition

Big weekend for Vanderbilt Sports. The Stanimal recap of the Lady's impressive defeat of #7 LSU last night at Memorial is a must read. The 68-58 win, on Senior Night, sets up Vanderbilt's match-up at The Summitt in Knoxville against the #2 Lady Vols on Sunday. Vanderbilt is currently tied for second in the SEC East and has put themselves in a position to get a first round bye in next week's SEC Tournament.

As was discussed in this space yesterday, the Men's team has a HUGE game this Sunday at home against Kentucky. Currently, Kentucky and Vanderbilt are tied for second in the SEC East at 8-5. Having beaten Kentucky at Rupp earlier this season, Vanderbilt holds a slight edge over the Wildcats, and can take on step closer to clinching 2nd in the East with a win on Sunday. Vanderbilt has won 3 straight against Kentucky, and would love to make it 4 in a row. For the first time, I have to thing ever, Kentucky fans appear to be looking enviously at Vanderbilt basketball fans. I particularly like the second comment that extols Kevin Stallings' coaching. I think Kentucky fans should stop whining, after all they still have Ashley Judd coming to all their games. She is hot.

This game will be on Lincoln Financial Sports and shown on ESPN Full Court. For those of you not lucky enough to live in Nashville (or other places where Lincoln Financial games are shown), or know someone who has ESPN Full Court, here are some Basketball viewing parties the Vanderbilt Alumni Association is hosting: Los Angeles ($3 Bloody Mary's), St. Louis at QB Clark's in Brentwood (link not available), Cincinnati, Washington, D.C. (er, Northern Virginia), and Atlanta. The DC viewing party was pretty awesome last week, but I have to shout out the LA party for including drink specials and Atlanta's Bliss Stone for having the most spirit of any viewing party organizer. For those of you attending a viewing party, don't forget to print out the Vanderbilt Basketball Drink Game Rules.

For anyone who has checked out VuCommodores.com recently, you have seen that Vanderbilt currently has 7 teams ranked in the Top-25 (men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, women's tennis, women's bowling, women's golf, and women's tennis). What you might not know (because honestly, why would you?) is that Bob Costas will traveling to Nashville today to interview Gordon Gee and David Williams to discuss Vanderbilt's recent success, despite not having a typical athletic department structure. For all of you reading this with a beverage in your hand, take a sip.

Vanderbilt will be hosting the Music City Baseball Classic this weekend, featuring Pittsburgh, Ball State, and Boston College. I don't know if Woody will be doing a preview, but if he's not, he should; if he does, I'm sure it will be good.

Don't forget to get in your picks for SEC Pick'em, and check back later for this week's Hoser of the Week. I think this week's Hoser is gonna make it rain.
