2012 Football Schedule Released

Vanderbilt will open on Thursday night at home on ESPN against South Carolina, will travel to new SEC member Missouri, and will host Florida, Auburn, and Tennessee in conference play. Non-conference games include home slates against Presbyterian and UMass (for Homecoming), as well as road trips to Northwestern and Wake Forest.

The toughest run appears to be a four-game stretch in the middle of the season with trips to UGA and Missouri, followed by home games against Florida and Auburn. Fortunately the Dores will get a bye week after the Georgia game to break up the gauntlet run.

As SEC schedules go, this one is a lot more friendly than it could be. Vandy avoids three of the best teams in the country in LSU, Alabama and Arkansas, and figures to get several of the most challenging matchups -- South Carolina, Florida, Auburn, and UT -- at home.

Full schedule and comments from CJF are available here.

Sep. 8: at Northwestern
Sept. 22: at Georgia
Oct. 6: at Missouri
Oct. 13: FLORIDA
Oct. 20: AUBURN
Oct. 27: UMASS (Homecoming)

Nov. 24: at Wake Forest

I really like this schedule. I love the Thursday night opening game and think that is something we should try to do more of.

3 road games in November isn't ideal, but I don't think we could ask for better opponents to travel to, all things considered. As always, October will be critical with 3 home games , 2 of which are against quality opponents.

I personally don't love the early bye, but sometimes that can be a blessing.

Why are we playing at Wake Forrest again? I thought this was a home-and-home series?

Vanderbilt signed a long term deal with Wake in 2006 that called for 7games to be played through 2015. The teams did not meet in 2009 and will not meet in 2014. The article does not specify who gets more home games.
