Since Douglas said comments on anything but the tournament are welcome, here's comment fodder for a slow week (baseball successes aside): Ralph Nader's proposal to eliminate college athletic scholarships.
Let's see if all of the qb's improve with much better position coaching from this staff. If Goro and Rogers can't beat out LS for the opening game after being evaluated by this new staff, then we should all just stop the hate toward LS and wait until one of these guys get's better and beats out LS. I suspect that Rogers will be the starting qb by the opening game against Elon. By the way, please no polotics on this blog. I really don't care to know what Ralph Nader thinks about "college athletic scholarships". Ralph Nader can take up his argument with the college presidents and while he's at it, come up with an "investment option" to reward or "pay" the athletes in place of scholarships. Ralph Nader was relevant back in the 1970's.....Back to the qb's; my view is to find a qb who will just manage the offense this season. QB goals for this season....getting the ball to our playmakers on offense (whoever that is coming out of camp), no or very few interceptions, good decision making especially in the 4th quarter of games, and making all the basic reads and throws. Go Dores !
Please God no Larry Smith...he's fine, but he's mediocrity defined. Thinking he is going to lead us to some promised land, or even that he has a promised land within him himself, is foolish. We would have seen it before now. Even we take a step back, let's start anew and give someone else a shot. We've seen what Larry can do. Please.
I predict CJF won't start LS just to make a splash...starting LS would set CJf down a 'Same Ole Vandy' path...
While I am probably in the camp of favoring a non-LS qb...everybody is starting new in the eyes of this new staff - a staff who is NOT S O V...so whoever proves themself to be most worthy and able a game time should get the nod with the others ready to go at the drop of a hat. Depth...ya know...the thing S O V never had.
I agree with your (anonymous) stand against political statements in this e-community. Mr. Nader arguably has never been politically relevant. He has made himself professionally relevant however, as a consumer advocate, and it was in that capacity that he suggested reform to the collegiate athletic system. The comment section was moving pretty slowly, and Douglas said it was open to all topics, so I was trying to stir the pot by sparking athletic discussion. But thanks for the drive-by acknowledgement, and I'm glad we're back on track.
My view on the QBs is that CJF should choose, as much as possible, based on game-day performance. The word with LS seemed to be that he was good in practice, but as we all saw, unwatchable during games. I'm excited to see what JR has.

"These guys are going to be dramatically improved this year. I can guarantee you that."

Coach! You got the job, buddy! You don't have to keep blowing pink smoke and rainbows up our rear ends.
This could be really fun to watch, though. I'm hopeful.
Please God let it be Jordan Rodgers

Also how about throwing it down field every now and then.
That football schedule is some weird wild stuff.
