Coaching Dominoes: Purdue's Painter to Decide Where He Will Coach Wednesday
Right now, Matt Painter is Purdue's Head Coach, but he has been aggressively courted by the University of Missouri, who lost Mike Anderson to Arkansas last week. According to a report in The Sporting News, Painter will decide tomorrow whether he will remain in West Lafayette or spurn his alma mater to lead the Missouri Tigers. What does this have to do with Vanderbilt? The Commodores' Kevin Stallings played 4 years at Purdue under Gene Keady and is likely to be on the Boilermakers' list of potential replacements. It is not outside the realm of possibility that Vice Chancellor David Williams will be conducting his second major coaching search in 6 months.

I guess we could live without a men's head basketball coach for 6 months. The women's team hasn't had one since Jim Foster left.
Assuming he doesn't have a lot of family around there, why on earth would he leave? To be a coach at a lesser school in a lesser conference in a dismal Rust Belt city in a dying state?
It might be great for Vandy if he did go, but seriously?
next year will be Kevins best talent year by far...
He's all but committed to staying on board until he's 60 and then retiring. Let's not worry about this. Plus, Gene Keady looks like the angry substitute teacher from The Simpsons.
I see this as a win-win situation. If Stallings leaves we get a new coach and I imagine that Vandy would be a choice job for MBB coach, unlike football. We should essentially have our pick. Only downside is that maybe someone transfers or we lose a recruit. Other downside could be that the players have to learn a new system - but you could argue that perhaps a new system is what is needed after a few lapses in March.
If Stallings stays then we retain a great coach who (in my observation) has the respect of his players, coaching peers and VSL Nation (for the most part).
Point of clarification for Anonymous #1, the 6 month period refers to the last 6 months, when we hired a new head Football coach. In rereading the quote, I realize I omitted the word "second" immediately before "coaching search."
I don't think CKS will leave. I believe he is committed to this group of players. If he does, we can hire BRUCE!!!
If he leaves, Shaka Smart only makes like $300,000-$400,000/year. We could easily pay him something that VCU could never match, and most of his good players are leaving. I would love to hire him and rub that in UT's faces.
Yea, there’s something about Shaka Smart I’m not sold on yet. We shouldn’t go after a coach based on how he does in one NCAA tournament. You see ADs make that mistake and it really can set a program back. Too much emphasis is put on a 3 week tournament as opposed to 3 + months of college basketball.
Having said that, I’m still a fan of CKS. He has done a lot for the program and the more I think about the recent NCAA struggles, the more I put that on the players – especially this year (cough, Jeffery Taylor, cough). Stallings shows emotion on the sidelines and I don’t think he do anything more then go out there and play for the kids who aren’t showing up (couch, Jeffery Taylor, cough).
I don’t think Vandy will let Stallings go without a fight because in terms of athletics, he is our programs most recognizable face. His distinct facial features also help.
I like Stallings and would much rather have him then not…
Completely concur w Seth _ in addition CKS runs a clean program- I think VU a better job than Perdue. - rather live in Nashville or rust belt? Sure VU has room to improve but overall good success.

Well don't let it friggin' happen again.
Point is mute on Purdue coach - ,!
Moot. It's not "unable to speak."
Agree with Seth as well.
Any word on JT's or JJ's decisions to leave/stay? When do you all think we'll find out?
Painter staying at Purdue.
