The Washington Post Sports Section is Officially Not Credible

The AP is reporting that no agreement has been reached between Franklin and Vanderbilt. Jeff Lockridge has a little more (but not much) in his Tennessean piece, but as of right now, the Commodores are still without a head coach.

This really is getting ridiculous. VSL BrainTrust, you all seem to have some inside knowledge of David Williams (I believe some of you had him as a professor). Is this just the normal we're not going to say anything until the deal is completely done (but it pretty much is done other than him getting on a plane, flying to Nashville and actually signing the contract)? Or is there perhaps more to this (similar to what we saw this weekend with Malzahn)?

I had DW as a law professor and think the world of him. I am of the opinion that these leaks are coming from somewhere other than DW because doing things in the press is just not the way he rolls. When you get down to final candidates, the circle of people "in" on the decision-making tends to grow. The more people who know something, the more people who can shoot of an email to a friend saying "I know something you don't know." Now, I have no idea if that is what's happening or not, but DW's position throughout this entire thing has been pretty consistent: don't say anything in the media until you absolutely have to. Unfortunately, these reports (premature as they all appear to be) force his hand. He's got to say something and so he is. It's unfortunate that the actions of others are making DW look like he's bungling a situation that I actually think he's handled very well.

I tend to disagree that he's handled it well...it could have been handled much better than letting the whole Vandy Nation believe that Malzahn was on his way here for more than 18 hours and he wasn't. Williams should have made some type of comment Sunday when everyone got their rears on fire in high hopes that Malzahn was ours - me included! That should have been squashed right when it hit the internet. I commend him for going after Malzahn, and if he could have landed him it would have been amazing. But not "commenting" on things is how rumors start.

Do people still think any part of the Post is still credible?

Your probably better off trusting the Washing Post comment section than the actually authors.

I agree with ananynous who has had his soul drained. This sucks. I predict it will be a terrible hire and will speak with my pocket book. No season tickets next year. I am going to watch the Chattanooga Mocs instead. They will be ranked higher than us next year just like they are ranked 22!! teams ahead of us this year in the Sagarin rankings. WTF!Coach Hussman would have been a better choice. At least he has some head coaching experience and has turned around a losing program.

Not taking this crap anymore. If the admin doesn't care, why should I?

I will repeat it again and again. TERRIBLE HIRE!!

GO Mocs!!

I also predict Dooley will look like a genius compared to this clown. We had to have a high profile name to up the recruiting against National Champ SEC teams. Not same old same old. I would almost rather us drop football than continue to get embarrassed."

I emailed these to whatI think is DW's email.

Maybe if we scream loud enough we will be heard!!!

Can I ask you a question. Something (beyond the obvious) is bothering me about the He Who Must Not be Named debacle. Some in the press are saying that it was Vandys fault for not knowing that HWMNBM had withdrawn. But isnt it the other party that needs to inform that a negotiation is over. I just keep thinking that a 30 second phone call from HWMNBM would have been customary and at least a normal courtesy. Not to mention saving all the Vandy fans and players all this heartache. I am still upset about this and just feel terrible that the new guy won't get the proper welcome. Thanks
