Arkansas Post-Game Open Thread

We'll post our thoughts tomorrow, but what did y'all think about the 49-14 schalacking in Fayetteville?

Everything went south when they sent in Funk on that third possession. Radio team failed to ask Caldwell why they did that at halftime, and I didn't stick around for the postgame presser.

Either you experiment for next year or you try to win. Can't do both in the same game.

I don't lay blame for another losing season at the feet of Larry Smith, but remember when you had high hopes for him (ala the Music City Bowl victory)? Back then he exhibited a great arm and was a decent field general. I, for one, have felt let down since then by his performance. In no way has the passing improved since his 1st yr., and he's not been the team captain I hoped he might be.

As I said, it's not all on Larry, it's just that coming to the end of his Jr. yr., I'm coming to the realization that he won't be the deus ex machina.

I don't think playing the senior backup would qualify as "experimenting for next year"

Nail in the coffin for this coaching staff. Kiser has proven no ability to shape anyone into a decent QB. The coaching staff makes terrible in game adjustments. I don't understand why if they are gonna take Smith out then go with Goro or Rodgers?

Sorry, Anonymous. Was looking for a rationale for inserting Funk, and thought that if his style was similar to one of the redshirts or prospects, the coaches might've wanted to see what the rest of the offense looked like under a different style.

Still haven't heard an explanation.

I give Caldwell credit for at least not be stagnant - for better or worse, he's more emotional than CBJ, and willing to take risks. I didn't see that a lot from Bobby. But putting Funk in on the 3rd possession when Larry Smith is finally showing a little confidence and rythmn was stupid. That's too drastic a change for the offense to make. I get that they were trying to keep it fresh and keep Ark back on thier heels, but that was too much. But all in all, I don't think that Caldwell has what it takes to be a head coach. He looks defeatist and sounds confused at times, especially when the going gets tough. He sounds like a man in over his head.

On a related note, I'm excited for Goro to step up to the plate - I think he can be a great leader and player for VU. I'd like to see him get a decent amount of game experience towards the end of this year.

Once again, Coach Caldwell uses his favorite word: disappointing.

Bobby Johnson saw this coming and got out early. He is a smart man.

The qb change was not the issue. They were not going to beat Ark. Yes the timing was poor but what it confirmed is the poor coaching and adjustments made in-game. Perhaps the qb move is an "adjustment" that would have made sense at the start of the 2nd half. Getting beat in all phases of the game means we need a complete overhaul to the staff.....this is not the 1st time this season that Caldwell and staff look totally confused when other competent coaching staffs would be making basic adjustments on both sides of the ball. Is it me or does the team look like they have tuned out the coaches and look defeated very early in these games lately ? I hope that Williams already has a coaching short-list for next season.

Maybe Kiser convinced Kitchings to try putting in Funk to secretly sabotage him for taking his job.
