Who Agrees With Joe Biddle?

Joe Biddle of The Tennessean recently wrote the following:

"If [Vanderbilt] can find four wins this season, it will be a miracle on West End."

Throw-away line? Hyperbole? Setting low expectations? Dead-on analysis?

I think "miracle" is a bit strong. I would agree with him that it isn't necessarily likely...but there is always a chance for a win every week (though often small).

Agree that "miracle" might not be the right word. It's probably where the bar is set. This is basically the same team as last year which we all remember managed two wins. The only way this year's team is any better is if the offense can find a way to get in the end zone and the defense just holds it together. Here's hoping that happens, but I'm not necessarily counting on it.

Final record: 7-6

I know you disagree . . . but looking at the schedule, it's not totally outside the realm of possibility.

Except that it is out of the realm of possibility. Northwestern is a better team than us, but are vulnerable with Kafka graduating, so that's a 40/60 toss-up. We'll have a hell of a time running against Ole Miss's d-line, so that's more of a 30/70. Uconn may win the Big East. That's a definite L. And UK, UT, and WF are all coin flips depending on how healthy we'll be (and at this rate, with Monahan and Stacy going down, would you bet on our health?). That makes one guaranteed win with three toss-ups and two "if everything falls our way and we luck our way into an upset" games. I see 2-3 wins, with 4 a great success. The article's pretty much dead on.

Chuck Heston must still be shaken up from that interview with Mike Moore.
