Vanderbilt held off LSU's 9th inning charge to win today's game 4-3. Sonny Gray finished the weekend much better then he started it, coming on to relieve Jack Armstong's stellar 7 2/3 outing, by getting the final 4 outs to seal the deal. LSU entered the weekend ranked #15. With their win, Vanderbilt moves to 12-10 in conference play, who needed this win after losing the Tennessee series in heart-breaking fashion 2 weeks ago. That Vanderbilt's two games against Georgia were canceled could hurt the Commodores come seeding time for the SEC Tournament in a few weeks. Vanderbilt needs to win their series in Starkville next weekend, and ideally, beat Arkansas at Hawkins Field to finish the season.
But before all that though, Vanderbilt will host a Louisville Tuesday night at Hawkins Field. This isn't just some ordinary game, as this game is one of the many ways the Commodores are giving back to the Nashville community in light of last week's flood. Vanderbilt is offering free admission for the remaining 1,300 tickets will be dispensed on the day of the game at the gate and fans will be encouraged to donate in lieu of purchasing a ticket. All monetary donations being accepted for the Nashville Red Cross. The O'Shea's will be there, and everyone at Vanderbilt Sports Line would encourage all those who can to attend.
Can't make it to Hawkins? There are other ways to help.
