Commodores Drop First Game to South Carolina

The Commodores squandered a complete game, 3 run gem by Sonny Gray (who fell to 4-4), and lost the first of a 3 game set to the SEC East leading South Carolina Gamecocks. Vanderbilt's loss puts them 3 games back of the Gamecocks in the East. The Commodores only managed 7 base runners (3 hits and 4 walks) all night long, and continued their streak of failing to give their ace any run support. Consider this: Sonny Gray is 4-4 with a 2.44 ERA. In all 4 of his losses, the Commodores have scored 2 runs or less. Hopefully, the Commodores will get back to their winning ways tomorrow, who have only lost back-to-back games twice this season. Still, tonight's game makes it abundantly clear that Vanderbilt's success this season will depend entirely on the spark in their bats.

In other baseball news, it was a bitter-sweet night for Bobby, who's Yankees lost to former Commodore hurler David Price, who allowed just 3 runs in 7 2/3 innings.

I promise, my A.J. Ogilvy take is coming soon. I'm also planning on attending tomorrow's Black & Gold scrimmage and will let you all know how much one can glean from an intra-squad scrimmage 5 months before the season begins.
