More Good News: Ryan Hamilton Named National Player of the Week

Ryan Hamilton was named the national defensive player of the week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation after his three-INT, one-TD, one-fumble-recovery, six-tackle, and one-goal-line-stick tour de force against Ole Miss. This marks the second time in as many weeks that a Vanderbilt player has earned national player of the week recognition for outstanding defense. Lest we forget, LB Patrick Benoist won the Football Writers Association of America Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week award for his performance against South Carolina.

The fun doesn't stop there.

to vote for Hamilton to win USA Today's national player of the week award (inclusive of offensive and defensive players). At the time of this writing he was leading the voting by nearly 20 percentage points, at 41% (ahead of Missouri's Chase Daniel at 22% and Boise State's Kellen Moore at 23%). As O'Shea would say: Vote early. Vote often.

So it's only Tuesday of the bye week and all I can think as I sit here is ... BEAT AUBURN!!! I don't think I can wait for the game, but at least it will give us a chance to get healed up. Just imaging getting to the hedges at 6-0! I know that's a big leap, but that would be amazing (not to mention getting bowl eligible).

Stewart Mandel says that we can win 8 games, and has us ranked 25th in his latest power rankings.

I do not know if this is a good or bad thing for us. I hate Mandel.

If VU does not improve vs. the Ole Miss game in terms of running the football, this will be a difficult game to win.

There will be a point on 10/4 when the Black & Gold need 4-6 yards per play down the stretch.

As good as the D is, CBJ can't continue to rely on the out of this world play that the defense showed vs. Ole Miss showing up week after week.
