Vanderbilt Takes a 4 Seed to Tampa...

I am completely shocked Vanderbilt earned a #4 seed. When the East was unveiled and IU was given an 8 and Washington State got a 5, I was convinced Vanderbilt was going to get a 7 or an 8 seed.

Times have not been announced for Friday's games yet. For ticket information, click here. Note that NCC is probably a better way to get tickets than through the Alumni Office. As such, if you've been on the fence about contributing and want to go to Tampa, clicking on this link or the National Commodore Club link to the right.

Thoughts from VSL Nation?

Very excited to be a #4 seed. However, i hate seth davis for instantly picking us to lose. Sienna is going to get dominated by Croc OG.

I can't believe we landed a number 4 seed given our rather lackluster performance down the stretch, but I'll take it.

As far as the match-up goes between us and Siena, we have the size advantage. The tallest player on their team is 6'9". But they are the kind of team that is dangerous to Vanderbilt. Good three point shooters in Edwin Ubiles (their stud), Tay Fisher and Kenny Hasbrouck. They also like to get out and run and are very aggressive on defense.

Still our balanced attack should pose some serious problems for them as long as we don't let them control us on the box outs. I think Vandy dropping a couple may open some eyes for this team and realize that we can't look past them. Key to the game will be Ogilvy staying out of foul trouble and continuing to control the paint and Foster stepping up and demonstrating why he was the #1 player in the SEC this year (not that that wasn't obvious, but hey).

Also hopefully Ross gets his head out of his rear and shows us the quality play he demonstrated in last year's tourney.

i am looking WAY far ahead. but that is what march is all about right? if we can get to the sweet 16 we have an opportunity to get revenge on kansas and danny manning all those years ago. and if we can do that, well, a possible rematch w/ georgetown lies ahead. but don't get me wrong. one game at a time. let's take on siena, and than drop winner of clemson/villanova (toss-up in my book).

go dores!

i'm worried about clemson.... i watched them play today and they looked mighty good. but yeah, one game at a time! glad to be closer to home than last year!

Interesting that we moved up to #16 in the final ESPN poll.

Every year we make the tournament, everyone picks us to lose in the first round.

How'd that work out against Western Michigan (13 points) and George Washington (33 points), media folk?

Morons. It's like they assume that since we're smarter than anyone else in the field of 65 that we should lose in the first round.

Vanderbilt is vulnerable to teams that press a lot like Arkansas and Siena. Siena is extremely athletic and forces a lot of turnovers. Vanderbilt is a horrible rebounding team, so even with their size advantage, they will be outrebounded and outhustled. Unless Shan Foster scores 42 points, Vanderbilt will lose, probably by at least 15 or 20 points. Vanderbilt is seeded way too high. After losing three of their last five games, they are stumbling in to the tournament and have lost all the confidence they gained by beating an overrated Tennessee team. Vanderbilt fans should approach this game like they do every football game. They should be excited, but also be aware that they have no chance of winning. After an inevitable first round exit from the tournament, Shan Foster will go undrafted and have a disappointing career in Europe and the D-League. If Vanderbilt played in the ACC they would have a losing in-conference record and probably wouldn't even be in the tournament.

let's take it as a sign of good things ahead

I don't think Seth Davis from ESPN actually said that. It was probably just some tool trying to be funny. It does kind of sound like some of the typical media coverage of Vandy sports, but I doubt anyone would go that far on TV (even if some of the points actually have a little bit of merit).

If Vandy is smarter than any other team in the field, anonymous, than what the hell is Ross Neltner doing on the roster, much less even ATTENDING VU?

Good game Vandy. You were only a twenty five minute run away from making it a game!
