Fair, but a little low. UT and Arkansas have obvious flaws (lack of a passing game) and Alabama... well, we get to find out about that one on Saturday. All told, I'd rank them 5 or 6 (it's a tossup with UT for the 5 spot after seeing their WR's struggle to get open against what Cal calls a defense).

I'd put UGA ahead of UF right now. Other than that, looks about right.

Today, the number of hits to VSL by loyal readers, groupies, and wannabes has eclipsed the mileage reading on my car's odometer. Clearly, VSL has arrived. Go Dores!

I think the rankings are interesting. I really see no difference between 7-10 (bama, vandy, Usc, and UK) It is feasible to assume that each one of those teams could beat the other on any given Saturday. We will also see what LSU has to offer this weekend when they get the Hokies at home.

Fair point, Chad. Auburn's going to have a tough run this year with road trips to LSU, Florida, Georgia, and Arkansas. Not to mention the injuries already sustained and the fact that their starting RB was suspended the day before the first game. Still I doubt I'd rate them any lower than 5. It's not totally inconceivable that Vandy could beat Auburn down there, but one thing at a time I guess.

As for the Commies, I agree with Aaron's assessment -- there's just no way to accurately "rank" the 7 to 10 teams.

Oh the other thing I was going to say is don't underestimate Kansas State. Ron Prince is a great coach and their defense is sick -- very underrated in my opinion. Auburn's D kept them alive...and is the reason I'm not predicting a Commie victory when we play them at their house.

It's too early for polls and power rankings. As Michigan's loss showed, they had no business being ranked fifth nationally.

Nobody knows how good anybody is yet.

The first polls should come out in October.
