VSL Hotline: Nobody Who Likes Sports is Thinking Of Anything But The NFL Draft Edition

Hello VSL nation, Bobby has got his hands full with the job that actually pays the bill (yeah, we do this for free), so I'm taking over today's hotline. I can promise you that my effort will not be as good as his at digging out Vandy articles. I leave that expertise to him.
An article by Mike Organ in today's Tennessean talks about women's basketball coach Melanie Balcomb's flirtation with the folks at Michigan State, and her withdrawal from that position in light of Vandy's committment to put more money towards the women's basketball program. The only thing I can say is that this is partially indicative of why coaches are willing to stick around at Vandy rather than jump ship for bigger programs. Vandy is doing a wonderful job of catering to our coaches' needs, and that's fostering an environment of low coach-turnover, something any good athletic program should have.

The Vanderbilt Men's baseball team went yard on four seperate occasions yesterday to barely squeak out against Tennessee Tech 12-10. While our hitting performance was impressive, but we struggled to close them out by allowing six runs in the eigth. Cody Crowell picked up the save by getting three straight outs in the ninth to advance us to 36-8 on the year heading into a conference series this weekend against Florida.

The Nashville City Paper's recap of the action is much better than mine or the Tennessean's, check it out here.

Keith Law of Scouts, Inc. has pitcher David Price ranked #2 among his latest Top 100 draft eligible players. RHP Casey Weathers is #23 on the list.

Sorry to all you Idol lovers, but I'm not into it and therefore won't discuss it, (mostly since I have no idea what happened). Bobby can get into it in tomorrow's hotline. However, I think I can speak for everyone when I say that I am very intrigued by this years NFL draft. The only Commodore who is registered for the event is Steven Bright. While I happen to think Steven was a "Bright" spot for the 'Dores in his career, the chances of him going undrafted are high.

Honestly, with not much to discuss in the Vanderbilt sports realm, I would love to talk about things that could unfold in this year's draft. If y'all have predictions, comments, etc., I'd love to hear 'em so that I can speed up the mundane hours of the afternoon. One thing is for sure, whoever lands this guy on the right is going to be a lucky, lucky team.
