Women's 2-Seeds Have Bad Days; Including Vandy

In a wild weekend that saw three 2-seeds upset in the second round, the Lady Commodores just couldn't find their touch.

Stanford, Maryland, and Vandy all fell as the Commies were upset by 7-seed Bowling Green 59-56, providing a disappointing ending to what was truly an impressive season.

The SEC champs had a difficult first half, digging themselves a 13 point hole. That didn't stop them from putting up a valiant fight in the second half, cutting that deficit to 6 within the last minute to give them a fighting chance, but the Dores just couldn't pull through. They cut the lead to 3 with 10 seconds left but were unable to pull off any last second miracles. Liz Sherwood stepped up and had 18 points for the Commodores, Carla Thomas had 12.

In the end, Bowling Green forced a lot of turnovers and absolutely shut down the three, the Commodores bread and butter attack, as they only went 2-10 from beyond the arc. They shot just 43% from the floor. Caroline Williams was limited to just five points and Dee Davis couldn't find her touch.

Vandy has been to the NCAA tournament 8 straight years, but hasn't made the sweet 16 since '05. This team was very senior heavy and was hopeful to make a deep run, but the Bowling Green Falcons had a different idea. Give the Falcons credit for absolutely shutting down one of the top scoring teams in the SEC.

This is a tough loss for so many seniors who really had tremendous years, but Coach Melanie Balcomb's squad has a lot to reload with and will no doubt be in the hunt next year.
