Commies Enact Revenge against the State of Kentucky, roll Western Kentucky 15-2.

The Vanderbilt Baseball team avenged the Lady Commies basketball second-round loss to Bowling Green, beating down Western Kentucky 15-2 at Hawkins Field last night. After giving up two quick runs in the top of the first, the Commies settled in, hit cruise control, and never looked back.

Down 0-2 in the bottom of the first, the Commies rattled off some singles and ended up scoring four in the frame. They then scored two more in the second thanks to a Pedro Alvarez two-run home run. Thanks to a sloppy third by the Hilltoppers, the Commies scored six unearned runs on three errors.

The Commies plated one run in the fourth, sixth-on Dominic de la Osa’s sixth home run (pictured at right), and the seventh. De la Osa led the team with three hits and two RBIs and Ryan Davis' three hits and four RBIs. Alex Feinberg, Pedro Alvarez, Ryan Flaherty and Andrew Giobbi each had two hits in the win.

Mike Minor pitched 3.1 innings of two-hit scoreless relief with six strikeouts and no walks in the winning effort to move to 3-0 on the year. Tyler Rhoden, Cameron Betourne, Josh Zeid, Caleb Cotham and Jason Cunningham combined to pitch four innings of two hit relief.

The Commies jump back into SEC action this weekend going to Arkansas for a three game series that starts on Friday at 6:35 p.m. They play again Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Check back for a full-blown, stat laden, and picture-popping preview later this week.

The Commies are currently 22-1 and 2-1 in SEC play.
