Vanderbilt Hotline: We're never gonna dance again, the way we danced with you

With the men's basketball team's season over, all that we can do is reflect, look ahead, and widen our lens to include the other fine Vanderbilt teams still competing or getting ready to compete. So with that, I would first draw your attention to the Stanimal's fantastic recap of what has taken place so far in spring practice. Commodore fans have reason to be excited as Coach Bobby and the boys prepare for the 2007 campaign. A big reason Commie nation should be jacked is Earl Bennett. Earl has a sit down with ESPN Insider Bruce Feldman that is worth checking out. If you have an insider password, feel free to send that to VandySports@gmail.com so Bobby can also enjoy since the account/password I was using is no longer cooperating. Coach Bobby also has an interview on Nashville's 104.5 The Zone that is worth listening to.

With the end of Vanderbilt's basketball seasons, the inevitable coaching carousel begins. Michigan has contacted DeFKA head Vice Chancellor David Williams about speaking with women's coach Melaine Balcomb according to today's Tennessean. According to ESPN's Andy Katz, Coach Stallings is also being mentioned for the men's opening in Ann Arbor. Brett Hait, as always, provides very good prospective on just what it means to be a candidate and how these reports can quickly take on a life of their own. Stallings is also mentioned as a possible candidate for the Iowa job. Proof positive that what Brett Hait says is correct, VSL Arkansas insider Boyer in the District is reporting the Texas A&M coach Billy Gillespie could be introduced as early as today as the new Razorbacks head coach. If that happens, than Coach Stallings will inevitably be bantered about for the Aggies job as well.

Commie fans should potentially be worried about Coach Balcomb's contact with Michigan. As Hait points out at the end of the article linked to above, Vanderbilt is losing 3 key seniors that made up 47% of the Commies total offensive production. Coach Stallings is in a little bit better shape, only losing 42% of his offensive production (and only 36% when looking just at starters Dan Cage and SEC POY Derrick Byars). Still, Vanderbilt will need to be proactive if they don't want either coach to leave the baselines of Memorial Gym (take a sip). We are talking about Vanderbilt men's basketball's future, sound off.

Vanderbit's recruiting hopes took a hit yesterday as Florida guard Gary Clark opted to locked behind to the confining gates of Wake Forest rather than rock out in NashVegas. Big mistake kid, huge. Courtesy (again) of Brett, Coach Stallings is hoping to sign another player or two of the 2007 recruiting class. One would think the Sweet 16 appearance and hosing would help his cause. What we don't know is how much time Coach Stallings is spending recruiting players, and how much time he is being courted.

Vanderbilt baseball hosts the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State tomorrow at Hawkins Field. This is the first of two games for bragging rights in the O'Shea house. Woody also has a recap of the Arkansas series and how the Commies lost their first series of the year.

Given all that has been going on lately, we have neglected some of the other, less attention grabbing sports at Vanderbilt. While we will continue to focus on baseball, basketball, and football, we will strive to do a better job keeping you up on the other Commie competitors. The women's tennis team has a nice little winning streak going, having won 11 of their last matches. The Lady Commies of the Court are currently ranked #18 in the country and are undefeated in SEC Player at 6-0. The Lady Laxers dropped #6 Penn State in College Station and the women's track 4x1500 relay team finished second in the Alabama Relays.

American Idol tonight. For those of you who don't watch the show, I really think you are crazy, for those who do, let me know how you think the remaining ten will handle Gwen Stefani. Finally (and without googling), the first person to comment on who sings the song referenced in the title of today's Hotline will earn my undying respect.
