Vanderbilt Falls to Gators (and Refs) 26-21 in Gainesville

There is no doubt that the Commodores made mistakes, but this has to have been the worst officiated game in the SEC this season. The no-call on the pass interference with Jordan Matthews in 4th was stunning, and very well could have been the difference in this game. Vanderbilt played an inspired 2nd half, despite digging themselves a 17-0 hole, and had a chance to win.

Winning games in the SEC is tough enough without getting screwed by the refs. It's too bad Vanderbilt had to play against the Gators and the SEC officiating crewed this afternoon.

I hope this tape gets submitted to the league or something. There were at least 4 PI calls where they swallowed the whistle. And what constitutes a 5-yd facemask penalty? I don't think they know.

I can't imagine how the pass interference was not called with Vandy driving for the lead. Unreal how bad the officals were in this game! I think Vandy had over a 100 yards in penalties and Florida had 17. Wow!! Go Vandy!

Look gents,

I'm as big of a VU homer as there is, but the refs did not cost us this football game. We didn't even show up in the first half of the contest! Seriously, Florida lost a fumble, their offense completely dominated us in the first half. It could have been a lot worse. Yes, we came to life and made a game of it in the second half, but it's hard to be so assured that the "refs cost us the game" in a contest which we never even led. Hell, we missed the opening field goal!

Take off the gold colored glasses! Yes, we're much improved. This is no SOV. SOV would have lost by a much larger margin and given up after the first half, but the refs weren't the ones who decided to only show up for a quarter and a half of football. That was our team.

Shut your fat face, Anonymous. No one's saying the refs stole a win from us. They stole a chance at a win, just like the '05 Earl Bennet "Soon they'll be dancing!" call made by someone trying out for John Lithgow's character in the touring company of Footloose. There is only one acceptable attitude toward this day's events: “You have undertaken to cheat me. I won’t sue you, for the law is too slow. I’ll ruin you.” –Cornelius Vanderbilt

In retrospect, it appears the refs decided the winner before the kickoff. Yes, we played poorly the first half. Some of that is from the nocalls. I can see why our players got frustrated if only we were being called against. Hard to believe FL improved so much in one game, especially with all the visible penalties that were not called.

I would call myself a "Vandy homer" who tries to be somewhat objective when watching the game. The 1st half effort by the team was bad, especially the penalties which seemed sommewhat out of character for this team. That being said, Florida is a different team with a healthy Demps; his speed is unmatched by any SEC defense. If our defense (one of the linebackers on a blitz)tackles Brantley late in the 4th quarter (on 3rd and long)rather than being faked out on the long pass play / pass interference against us, then it's 4th and long for the gators. We likely get the ball back with a chance to win. The no-call involving Mathews being pushed in the back with the ball in the air was really pathetic. I think the penalties really hurt though, but I try not to to blame officials even though they were awful. We had our chances but don't seem to be able to put a complete game together. In the SEC, you can't expect to win on the road and not take advantage of your opportunities. The O-line play was really bad in the 1st half but very much improved in the 2nd half. Jordan Rogers was special in the 2nd half ! Jordan Mathews and Chris Boyd have a chance to be special in the future and are both very talented. Let's go get Kentucky ! Go Dores !
