#1 Commodores Even the Series, Beat Gamecocks 6-4

Freshman Tony Kemp was an unbelievable 5-5 with a double and 2 runs scored in the Commodores 6-4 win over South Carolina to even the series at 1 game a piece. Grayson Garvin threw 6 innings, scattering 6 hits and walking 4 while allowing 4 earned runs. The Commodores bullpen came in and closed the door, allowing just 1 hit in 3 innings. For good measure, Jason Esposito and Mike Yastrzemski went yard.

The Commodores will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 central on ESPN2 for the rubber-match. It should be a great match-up with RHP Taylor Hill (2-0, 3.19) going for Vanderbilt vs. RHP Forrest Koumas (4-0, 1.91) for the Gamecocks. And, there is a possibility VSL will be live-blogging the game.

If we win tomorrow, I think we still keep our #1 ranking. No one else was playing this type of series this week.

Tony Kemp is faster than Willie Mays Hayes.

Hits like Mayes...runs like Hayes.

Even if UVA sweeps today's doubleheader against Duke to win the series 3-0, I still think the winner of today's game will start out next week #1. A Commodore loss probably drops them down to #3, while a USC loss could very well mean the Gamecocks stay put at #3 depending on who wins the UF/UGA rubber-game. The Gamecocks won their season series against the Gators, so I doubt they'd leap-frog USC even if they win and the Gamecocks lose.

Keep it simple.

VU go get the win. Stay #1.
