Vanderbilt Wins Ugly Game Handily

77-60 was the final in a game that was, at times, pretty difficult to watch. The game was close, as VUCommodores.com's recap makes clear, until Vanderbilt went on a 23-4 run to take control. John Jenkins led all scorers with 22 points (7-15, although he connecting on 7 of his last 10 attempts), while Jeffery Taylor poured in 20, while grabbing 10 rebounds. JT was a little better around the rim, although there were several attempts where Taylor couldn't finish. Brad Tinsely continues to be his steady self, scoring 16 points on 5-7 shooting, dishing out 3 assists, and committing just 0 turnovers.

Auburn is a bad team, but the Commodores took care of business and got the W. They remain firmly in control of 2nd place in the SEC East, and have their second chance to bury Tennessee this season Tuesday night. Losers of 4 of their last 5, the Volunteers suddenly find themselves in a somewhat perilous position for the NCAA tournament. While I think Tennessee is still a tournament team, their seed is tumbling.

I didn't see the first 5 points by JT but I don't care how many point he scored. He must have missed 5 or 6 EASY layups/dunks. I truly believe its all in his head. He is too talented (as evidence by scoring 20 points despite those misses) to miss those shots. I still believe he will get it together when it matters most.

The other thing I took out of this game is we are gonna be able to get LG and Walker healthy for the tourney....and that is more important than most casual fans realize.

To Lisa's point, can anyone who heard or watched the game comment on Walker? I heard that he got some minutes?

Andre came in toward the mid-point of both halves. He hobbled a bit, but he shows signs of his old glue man self. He hit a bucket at the end of the 1st half to put the Dores up by 2. He likes to position himself at the top of the key and feed inside or outside. He occasionally pulls up the jumper.

Overall, encouraging.

he looked slow but we never really used him for speed. he is still a nice option at point when being pressed. they were also using taylor in that role yesterday. vanderbilt will definitely need walker down the stretch but everything seems to be coming together a bit right now. i'd really like to see lance completely healthy and playing as well as he did in that 3-4 game span when he absolutely owned the glass. still want JT to figure things out around the rim. he could be SUCH a dangerous player if he turned into a 10+ rebound guy. if he could finish on put backs, my god!

Applause for four (now five) comments in a row with no "anonymous."

This is sort of random. Are there any 'Dores in Houston who want to watch any of these games?

I thought Andre's play was very encouraging. It appeared he "tweaked" his ankle towards the end of the game and asked out, but it didn't appear to be serious. Hopefully he'll be full strength by the postseason.
