JT did have 13 rebounds. That kind of contribution to help out-rebound the conference leader in that category on the road is worth something. He may not be that tough in taking it to the hoop, but he is good at being in the right position with a board or basket late.
Would it violate NCAA rules to put JT on beta blockers or some sort of anti-anxiety medication? I can see the argument for banning such stuff -- it would effectively take nerves out of college sports -- but JT clearly has legitimate psychological issues, so it would be appropriate for him to get medication.
The thoughtless, unoriginal negativity is really tiresome. No one likes reading it and it doesn't help the general mood of this blog.
This was a hard-fought road victory that wasn't pretty, but resulted in what we needed: another solid road victory to firmly secure 2nd place in the SEC East.
13 boards is a great defensive performance from JT, lay-ups notwithstanding. 7 blocks (I counted more than that, but 7, I think, is how many they gave him) from Festus is a huge defensive performance, essentially forcing Georgia to rely too heavily on the outside shot and never get into a strong inside rhythm.
Jenkins -- and the whole team -- looked tired in the first half, but something woke them up, and they played aggressively in the second half, completely dominating the offensive boards to get those badly needed second chance points.
Rod Odom continues to impress: he's confident, clutch, and a useful way of diverting the defense's attention from our primary scorers.
Time to get excited about these guys. With a solid SEC tourney run, I think we should be fighting for a 3 seed in the NCAA Tourney.
Taylor is inconsistent. That’s it. However, someone has to have great games then let downs to be considered inconsistent. Taylor will have his games it just wasn’t tonight.
Let’s not let his game distract us from the real story… Vandy came back from 13 down with less than 10 minutes to play and won by 8. Holy crap. No one has written that yet
Taylor also was the reason we pulled it out at Miss. St. We have lots of weapons right now with Lance and Andre not being huge factors. I think this win shows we are balanced and Jenkins is a man among boys. If we can get them back to good health before the NCAA tourni... my goodness.
It simply cannot be refuted how important Jeff was on the glass and on defense tonight. Perpetual Vandy killer Travis Leslie only had nine points all night, and his 13 rebounds were absolutely crucial to our run. I am dusappointed in his offense just like everyone else, but at this point we're just going to have to expect a Jekyll and Hyde approach from him. As long as he's playing good defense and crashing boards, the team can still play effectively.
John Jenkins basically went all Derrick Byars on the Bulldogs and absolutely willed us to that win tonight. Frankly I don't see how anyone could NOT vote him SEC Player of the Year. He has been outstanding offensively as of late. He didn't have a great first half, but his second half was unreal.
Also, here's a question: Trey Thompkins is universally regarded as a first round pick. But who was the better center tonight? I mean Fez was unreal both defensively and offensively.
One final point: I love how Stallings has essentially controlled the other teams late game rhythm by switching defenses at opportune times. UGA was completely flustered when we got out of the zone and went man, just as UK was flustered when we went vice-versa. A really solid job of defensive coaching by Stallings over the last two games.
Watched the game across from campus at the Midtown Corner Pub. The place went crazy the moment JJ started knocking down threes. Also, big Fez is a BEAST.

Wow. UGA fell apart completely.
How many layups did JT miss??? Unbelievable that we won that game. JT is a real head case. Good thing we have the SEC Player of the Year.

Agreed with your first statement, Chainsaw.
He might not have had the best game offensively, but Taylor is still the man. And I love the ball when it's in his hands.
