Vanderbilt Rolls Past #22/#21 St. Mary's

Vanderbilt took the lead with 6:57 left in the 1st half and didn't look back. The Commodores finished the half on a 27-7 run and took control of the game. While the Gaels crept back, cutting the Vanderbilt lead to 5, the Commodores wouldn't allow them to get any closer, and ended up winning the game handily.

There are a lot of positives that come from this game. The Commodores had 4 players in double-figures (Jenkins and JT had 19, Brad scored 18, and Lance added 15 points and 10 rebounds), attempted 32 free throws, hit 50% of their 3-pointers, and had a +12 in rebounding advantage. Vanderbilt did turn the ball over 23 times, something they've got to get under control.

Overall though, today's win was a good one. The Commodores protected their home court and beat a ranked opponent. With their next 2 games against SEC West opponents, Vanderbilt has a chance to win a couple before heading to Gainesville in February. More importantly, because the Commodores next game isn't until Thursday, Coach Stallings will have a chance to rest his banged up squad before they play 3 games in 7 days.

Need to get healthy - but good win and good to see Vu showing poise when the other team makes a run. The last 2 games they have not tended to panic.

Agree they seem to play too fast at times. I dont believe CSK has ever won at Miss. State, so Thurs would be a good win.

Ive been rough on Taylor, but he did something today Ive been wanting him to do and thats drive to the basket. He was money from the free throw line and I hope he continues to drive into the lane and draw contact.

Fuller was also excellent today even though he has 4 points and assists. Kid is a scrappy, quick ball player and I wish he would develop an outside shot. If we can get him scoring he will be a HUGE asset to this team.

All in all it was a good win. St. Mary's made some runs in the second half and we shut them down. Vandy maintained their lead in the 2nd half and I was very pleased to see us finally do that against a quality opponent. Go Dores.

We still have some work to do but today our team played good.

Lance is becoming a solid rebounder for us during Ezeli's injury. He should continue this defensive dominance even when Festus gets back to full-strength.

We looked bigger, stronger, and more physical over all today. Can't remember the last team we had that was physically intimidating -- consistently -- to our opponents.

With the mental toughness coming together bit by bit, we should be ready to peak at the right time. HUGE amounts of upside growth for this team. . .
