Why is Vanderbilt Negotiating a Multiyear Contract with Robbie Caldwell?

Aside from the Commodores currently losing 41-0 to Florida at the half, that's the latest Vanderbilt football news.

I understand that the plan all along has been for CRC to have two years at the helm, but why has the Vanderbilt administration determined that right now -- in the midst of a disappointing season and a streak of SEC losses in which Vandy has fallen 43-0, 21-7, and 49-14 (not to mention the ongoing bludgeoning on our home field) -- is a good time to decide that Robbie Caldwell is the guy they want beyond next season? I understand the virtue of showing confidence in your coaching staff and all, but this just makes no sense to me.

As a non-Vandy fan, I am shocked that you all would not go out and take a chance on someone.

You all have the resources to surprise with the right coach

If CRC stay, look for Norman to transfer. Our ability to recruit will be on par w/ Notre Dame. A horrible decision and one that's sure to result in many boosters, myself included, to lose complete interest in the program.

After the past couple of weeks, I assumed that Caldwell would not be asked to continue on next year, so this is shocking. I have no idea if Caldwell is a great coach Or a great recruiter, but I hope Williams found out before working out this contract extension. As for today's game, we lost our entire offense so we couldn't win. I will say that the guys fought hard till the end and finally a great catch! As a mom, I just feel so bad for the players, I just wish I could give the guys hugs. I imagine that there will major war between various factions involved in the fans and boosters. Please, please beat UT. Go Dores!

Williams and the rest of the athletic department don’t want/ don’t know how to conduct a proper coaching search. Therefore they just aren’t going to do one. Think about the big 4 in college sports: Men’s BBall, Women’s BBall, Baseball and Football. Except for Football we have outstanding coaches in the other jobs; all of them were hired when we had an athletic director. I understand one more year for Robbie but this multi year dear is insane.

Wow...I hope that this report is false. Just getting home from the game and I can't believe that Caldwell is even being considered after today's performance. The team is a reflection of the coaching staff. On the way home, one of the espn radio guys was shocked at the score and how Vandy is unable to even compete. I could not believe how bad the team looked after sitting through the 1st half....wow. I was hoping for a complete coaching overhaul including hiring a true atthletic director to make coaching hires.

Just watched the Caldwell's post-game press conference and surprised he didn't open with "disappointing"...will be very glad when this season is over!

Lockridge is reporting that ESPN' s story in wrong. This was simply reporting what had already been done when the interim tag was taken off Caldwell. So we can still get Jon Gruden for next year!
