The Tennessean's Jeff Lockridge Clears up Contract Questions Surrounding Coach Caldwell

In the Vanderbilt blog on the Tennessean's website, beat-reporter Jeff Lockridge clear up the "multi-year" contract extension reportedly being worked out between Vanderbilt and Coach Robbie Caldwell:
"Absolutely nothing has chan ged with Caldwell's con tract since the pre sea son, Van der bilt offi cials con firmed after Florida's 55-14 win.
When the inte rim tag was remo ved from Caldwell's title before the sea son began, his con tract was rewor ked as a 'multi-year deal.' It is widely known to be a two-year deal, although vice chan ce llor David Williams and Cald well choose to remain non-specific on the record to pre serve Vanderbilt's pri vacy poli cies regar ding contracts."

Lockridge offers this to bewildered Commodore fans: "All Vanderbilt fans need to know is that nothing has changed. Nothing is in place that would prevent Vanderbilt from going another direction after this season, or making a commitment to keeping Caldwell and his staff on board." If Vanderbilt doesn't look more competitive in their final 3 games than they have in 3 of their last 4, another direction might be the proper course to chart.

On a basketball note, I read somewhere that Kedren Johnson, a 2011 commit, in his status on facebook congratulated Dai Jon and then went on to say Alex Poythress and Tony Parker you're next. Now I know Alex is a high possibility but when I looked up Tony Parker, a center with a 83" wingspan, it said he had no offer from Vandy and wasn't even listed in his interests. However, I did some research and found that Kedren and Tony played on the same team this summer. What are the possibilities that due to help from Kedren we pick up the 15th rated player nationaly-Alex and the 16th- Tony Parker? If you've heard anything else about Tony or Alex, please feel free to leak it here.
Oh and Robbie will not be here next year, so have no fear.

It is pretty apparent that our recruiting momentum is going to pay dividends for us. According to what I've read, we are in great position for Poythress. Because of Kedren's relationship with Tony Parker, we could really steal a huge group in 2011.

Robbie will be back next year with a different staff. Look at the changes he has already made as an “interim”: hired Herb Hand and changed his offensive coordinator. Even though he sounds like a hick he isn’t an idiot. I think he really wants to change a lot about how Vanderbilt does football, he just needs an offseason to get HIS changes in. This team would not have been any better with Bobby still here and personally think we would have gone winless in the SEC (again) had he still been here. Ted Cain (special teams cord.) and Jimmy Kiser (quarterback coach/ 1st half season off. cord.) have proved they are dead weight to this staff and shouldn’t be back next year. Kiser has already been relieved of his offensive coordinator duties which makes me think Robbie wants him gone all together. Des Kitchings has proved a good running backs coach but not a good offensive coordinator, which makes me think he’ll be back at RB coach but not OC. There will be back room talks which will put Herb Hand as offensive coordinator at the end of the season. Robbie will also go out and find a top quarterback coach and special teams coordinator. He will be back for one more year.

NOT robbie the cable guy.

No way.

Im hearing Minnesota wants Leach. Would he pick Vanderbilt over Minnesota? Also, Vandy isnt a stepping stone job, I think in order to have to long term success here you have to stay for a while.

After watching the game yesterday in person, I don't see how (if he is retained) that Caldwell keep anyone on that staff with the exception of maybe Coach Hand. WR Coach Fisher, Coach should be fired as well as Special Teams Coach Ted Cain. Fisher should be held accountable for the total lack of production in the WR position. If Mathews td catch proves anything, it's that he should have been inserted into the starting lineup several games ago with the awful WR play. Udom, Cole, Wimberly....are we kidding ourselves ? Its too late now but they should have also played WR Chris Boyd. Can't possibly fire Kiser and keep Charlie Fisher. The total lack of offense and even worse execution, is due to both Kiser and Fisher. They were just awful yesterday. In order to give the Vandy faithful some reason for hope next season, I will actually be surprise if Caldwell is retained. At this point the team is not even competitive with other SEC teams. No other SEC school would tolerate this level of total disarray on both sides of the ball.

Inside information: Vandy is looking at Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo to replace Caldwell. This has been going on since the South Carolina game.
