VSL Hotline: Get Back on the Horse, Edition

Vanderbilt dropped the first game of a 3 game set against Florida 3-2 last night in Gainesville. Sonny Gray had a great performance, pitching 6.1 innings, scattering 4 hits, surrendering 2 walks, and allowing 2 earned runs. Vanderbilt's hitters didn't come up big, managing just 2 runs on 11 hits, while stranding 9 runners (including runner on 1st and 3rd with 0 outs and not scoring in the 3rd inning). Vanderbilt's offense was 5th year senior catcher Andrew Giobbi, who was 3-3 with 2 runs and a walk. Vanderbilt will look to get back to their winning ways, as the Commodores send junior RHP Taylor Hill (3-1, 3.25 ERA) to the hill, with the Gators sending , freshman southpaw Brian Johnson (2-1, 3.42) to the mound.

Jeff Lockridge has a piece in the Tennessean about Vanderbilt's evolving and maturing offensive line. Given the departure of a plethora of seniors, the most-seasoned offensive lineman is guard/tackle Kyle Fischer, who has only 13 career starts. Given the youth and relative inexperience of the offensive line, coupled with the somewhat stunted progression of offense as a whole, it makes some sense that the coaching staff has taken the red-jerseys off the quarterbacks to give them "game" exposure.

Happy Day before Easter.
