Only One Thing Should Be On Our Mind....Ole Miss

I imagine this goes without saying for Kevin Stallings' team. They certainly don't need our blog to tell them that a road win at Ole Miss is extremely important. From this point forward, each game defines who we are. What we've done in the past is now irrelevant. We have a golden opportunity starting on Thursday night to define ourselves not just as a good team, but as a great one. Each game helps us reach levels that Vanderbilt Basketball has not known in quite some time. Throw the statistics out the window folks: the only thing that matters now is that we believe.

I, for one, believe that we will win at Ole Miss. Perhaps that makes me a homer, perhaps I just see a team that's still flying under the radar, if a 19/18-5 team with an 8-2 conference record can still be flying under the radar.

Perhaps the reason I believe the most is because every game we have a new face step up when we need them most. Perhaps it's ridiculous for me to say, but I still don't think our ceiling is in sight.

Maybe its because Dolla seemingly has ice water in his veins. Maybe its because Jeffery Taylor at his best is nearly unstoppable. Maybe its because, despite all our talk of his regression, A.J. still can take over a game.

Maybe its because Andre Walker (who's health is vital to this team) and Brad Tinsley, are the pieces of the puzzle that make us dangerously efficient. They make not make you ooh and aah with their play, but the play vital roles in our success with their passing, rebounding, and shooting ability.

Maybe it's because Jenkins can stroke the three anytime, even if he has an off game every now and then. After all, he's only a freshman. Someone who comes off the bench shooting 45% from behind the arc is an incredible weapon, one that every SEC team has had to respect. Or maybe its because Lance Goulbourne showed me a little flash of what his freakish athletic ability can accomplish last Saturday against LSU.

Or maybe it's because when Big Fez and Steve T. got thrown in the mix against Wayne Chism you saw the blaring frustration on his face.

Sometimes we as fans easily get caught up in the numbers, and we just expect that the numbers say we aren't going to win the games down the stretch. In my opinion, it's time to let go of the numbers. The only thing I care about over the last six games of this season is making a statement, and we have the talent to do it.

Point is, I expect to win this game on Thursday, and I expect it to be a stepping stone to huge things to close the year. These Commodores are a darn good basketball team, and this week, they're going to let people know it.
