I have always hated Ohio State. I hated Eddie George, I hated Greg Oden, I hated Gordon Gee leaving us for them. Now the Buckeyes have stolen our highest rated football recruit. According to ESPN.com Bradley Roby, the #40 Athlete in the country has changed his commitment from Vandy to Ohio State. The kid is from Georgia so I don't really understand why he would want to go to a Big Ten school but whatever. Well they did win the Rose Bowl this year but still the Big Ten is so lame. This marks the 2nd time this recruiting season our Top recruit has de-committed (following Davis Dudchock). I mean this is partially to be expected as 1) we went 2-10 last year and 2) Bobby Johnson and his staff do an excellent job identifying talent so teams are smart to piggy-back off their work.
Its just very frustrating and demoralizing. Although it makes no difference I would just feel better if he had never committed to us. This is also why I wish College football had some kind of early signing day so that we could know the guys who are 100% committed to their school and who is still looking around because in the end "verbal commitments" much like Lane Kiffen signing a contract means absolutely nothing.

I can see why they go somewhere else. My son and I have tried to contact them repeatedly for months hoping to play for Vandy. They have returned no emails or calls!! So far he has offers from schools in the ACC, Big 12 and PAC 10. Are they arrogant, lazy, loaded with talent or what? No wonder they lose and better kids go somewhere else.
Roby's best friend plays for Ohio State. He has been trying to get an offer there for a year. His mom is also great friends with the player's mom and she has been lobbying hard for him to come to OSU if he was offered.
Crushing, I agree, but expected.
I am a LONGTIME Vandy fan and I mean for a LONG, LONG time - but I like Ohio State. They have fanatical fans and the best marching band in America.
I wouldn't want my kids to go to a school with 60,000 students ...but...if they were a h.s. all-american in football they probably would go there.
If Pryor doesn't go pro, tOSU will be ranked #1 when next season starts. Look what they did to "unstoppable" Oregon.
First "anonymous." If that's true, we are appalled. Sadly, our boosters have little to no determination on whether a kid gets a meeting with a recruiter. Also, the majority of "boosters" who comment on this blog are aged 20-30, and wield no real financial power.
alabama will be #1...Can't compete with the SEC
I was just letting the boosters know to expect poor results as long as coaches aren't willing to put out the effort. When a recruit's calls, emails, coaches calls, etc go unanswered, then your football dreams of success will also be unanswered.

Ohio State is obvs a better program, but I'm with Doug on this one: I hate them. I hate the Big 10 in general, but I really hate Ohio State. Having spent a lot of time in Cincinnati in my life, Buckeye fans are almost (almost) as insufferable as UT fans with their overwhelming sense of superiority and assitude. Screw them, is what I'm trying to say.
Two things.
1) Ohio State Will NOT be number one in the poles. They beat Oregon but so did a much better undefeated Boise State team that returns nearly all of their roster.
2) I hate Ohio State too. For all of the previous reasons, but even more because of their desire to be known as "THE" Ohio State. It is freakin' ridiculous. Most state schools and many private have a THE but we don't have to hear commentators use the term. It's not THE University of Southern Califonia, THE University of Alabama, or THE University of Texas. Ohio State get over yourselves. You have been overrated for the past five years and one good game against the PAC 10 champion that already had multiple loses is not convincing.
Anonymous #1, is your son a 2010 or 2011 recruit?
2010
JVBK was sent packing for slacking off in recruiting even though he had a MUCH MUCH MUCH higher winning % than CBJ and was a former SEC player of the year at VU.
Players the CBJ are allowed to recruit are often kids that wouldn't even sniff admission to VU as regular students.
I agree that something is wrong. Don't expect David Williams to do anything about it. Vandy doesn't care if they have any fans left in football. They got the one bowl win and that must be enough for the next 50 years in the eyes of those in charge.
If your son got offers from lots of other schools, he should pick the one with the best combination of academics and football and sign off on going there.
