Kicker Commits to Vandy

According to Vandysports.com one of the top kicking specialists in the country has committed to play for the Commies. Carey Spear, out of Highfield Heights Ohio stands at 5'11, 175. He can apparently handle both punting and place kicking duties. ESPN.com ranks him as the 6th best kicker in the recruiting class and as a 78 overall, while Rivals lists him as a 2-star player.

The interesting thing is that freshman Ryan Fowler was an All-SEC freshman pick so might be hard from Spear to get on the field as a place kicker, but the good news is he apparently averaged 42 yards per punt in high school.

The kicking game is always very important and something many fans don't think about until their team needs a big punt or field goal. And because Vandy is constantly at a talent disadvantage in the SEC, hitting field goals when we need them and putting the defense in a good field position w/ excellent punts is even more important.

This puts the class at 24 (apparently Jordan Rodgers is considered part of last years) which would leave 1 more position to fill by signing day next Wednesday. However there seems to be alot of rumbling w/ guys "committed". None more than w/ our other QB commit, Nash Nance. He apparently visited UT over the weekend and might be a combo commit w/ his best friend and 5-star WR Da'Rick Rogers, who is supposedly committed to UGA. Other issues might be w/ Jerrell Priester who might be having trouble getting academically eligible and Chris Boyd who is getting some interest from his instate schools UGA and Georgia Tech.

Should be a crazy last week no matter what.
