"I Saw the Rock and Roll Future...

And it's name is Bruce Springsteen." This was the lede written by Jon Landau in Boston's Real Pape in 1974, in what has become one of the most famous lines in rock criticism...ever. Landau went on to leave rock journalism and become Bruce's manager. So for him, pretty good career move. But I digress...

Tonight's Bruce concert in Nashville was, in my mind, the greatest show I've ever seen. Not only did the Boss play the entire Born to Run album, but he also sprinkled in "Santa Clause is Coming to Town," and (supposedly for the first time ever) Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire." For the record, I called Cash.

Anyway, I know this has utterly nothing to do with Vanderbilt sports, but my wife is asleep, my dog is a dog, and I've got to share my jubilation with someone.

We'll get back to basics tomorrow with Vanderbilt.

Until then, Tramps Like Us...

This can be a music blog. Grab the reins and jump the tracks, Bobby.

Rock and roll never forgets

I was at Bruce's '97 Kansas City show and I thought for sure that he played Cash's "Ring of Fire." I could be wrong, but I could have sworn I heard it there.

I saw the Boss in Skokie, IL in the summer of '86. It was as if the meaning of life was revealed to me. Joy, thy name is Bruce.

a work colleague (also at the concert last night) much older than me said that the boss was rumored to have played ring of fire in the 70s. hearsay but nonetheless, i am pirating some boss right now to educate myself. bring on the criticism because i wont by your cassettes or vinyls or whatever you call them.
