Mo Patton's story on the front page of today's Tennessean tracks the progress of sophomore QB Larry Smith. While Larry is saying all the right things, if you read between the lines, it's pretty clear he wants to be the Commodores starter.
The Nashville City Paper's David Boclair writes about Vanderbilt men's basketball. Tickets for the much anticipated 2009-10 basketball season went on-sale this morning at 12am on the internet. Tickets will also be available this morning by phone or at McGugin. The 09-10 schedule has yet to be released, but it is expected that Vanderbilt will host between 17-20 games at Memorial.
Finally picked up the Lindy's SEC Preview. Unlike The Sporting News, this is definitely worth picking up. Mo Patton writes the Vanderbilt preview, and it seems clear that there are still several spots on the depth chart that are yet to be decided. Practice starts August 7th.

While I love CBJ in the way he has upgraded the talent at Vandy and the way his coaching staff coaches up players the right way I still get frustrated with his in game management. Case in fact was the QB rotational system the past 2 years. While I understand neither Adams nor Nickson was effective nor healthy for major parts I don't think CBJ had a rational game plan for starting either QB. And it got even worse in the Music City Bowl when he would seemingly pull out Larry just as he was getting some momentum.
I think this year and next years success depend on Larry Smith and he should be the named the starter and given a FULL opportunity to prove himself. Not 2 quarters and then pulled out for 3-4 plays then put back in. Excited to watch this team rregardless.
Seconded. I am a subscriber to the "two QBs = 0 QB" theory.
Thirded. Running backs by committee work fine. QB by committee does not. Still Larry has to win the job. If CBJ thinks Adams is better in camp, then Larry may not be ready to take over. But either way, one of those two has to be the guy for the full game. End of story.
i can't be sure but i bought season tix for basketball and my brother checked later and he couldn't find tix he liked. seems to me like these are going fast.
Larry Smith needs to be the guy...if Adams was the starter, he would have proved himself in the past 2 years. This is a team with real momentum and on the upswing. I agree with Daag that we need to let Larry develop, keep him in for whole games, and look long-term here. Adams might have more experience and be a short-term solution, but we're trying to become an established, powerful program and it doesn't look like Adams is going to do much for us there...
I don't disagree. But you HAVE to play the best starter out of camp. It's all about winning the starting job. Players who come in to camp where there is a noted QB competition and expect to have it handed to them are the kind of namby-pamby weenies that aren't going to hold up to SEC pressure. Not at all saying that Larry is one of those guys, because he's not, but if CBJ thinks that Adams is playing better than Larry in camp, then you can't just give Larry the starting job because he's "the future".
One thing's for sure, Bobby J. sure wasn't going to tip his hand in the press conference today.
