Vanderbilt Wins the Cancun Challenge

The Commodores came up with a big victory tonight defeating VCU 71-66. Vanderbilt was up by as much as 16, but then allowed VCU to crawl back into it. They managed to hold the Rams off down the stretch though without Festus, Lance, Walker, or Tchiengang. Not bad, not bad at all.

Good news, Commies shot well from the line, and A.J. had a monster game with 25 points. Beal had 14, Tinsley had 13, and Taylor had 10. The Dores also outrebounded VCU, but unfortunately stats aren't released as of this posting.

Even better news, we're getting Steve T. back after this game as his suspension is officially up. Festus should also be back. Still going to be without Lance for a while, but unfortunately Andre Walker, as reported by David Boclair, is out for the year after tearing his ACL.

Huge win...I was a little worried after the Illinois loss, but winning this tournament was just what the doctor ordered. The freshman appear to coming along nicely. There will be set-backs, but this team will be fun to watch this season.

Andrew Walker being out for the season is pretty huge. I think he could break out but it looks like it will have to wait until next year. If we could get more consistent play from George Drake, things would be really in line. The freshmen do look good. It will be nice with Gouldbourne and Tchiengang are back.

walker out def hurts. his defense really helps out. steve being able to play will def help and festus will give aj some more resting time. we'll have to wait probably until st francis game to see lance which is right before sec play. i got a feeling he may struggle in sec not having played much at all which is not a good thing. great job beating eric maynor. we'll see how we shape up on road against georgia tech. they haven't beaten anyone yet but big school and an away game makes me nervous. we should handle ill-chicago

Any chance they redshirt Lance now? Mono is a tough thing to come back from especially going right into SEC play? Walker is one of the glue guys that this team really needed. Hopefully some other guys step up. The one good thing about this is I don't think AJ is gonna leave for the draft. I think he sticks around and we have a senior beal running the point, AJ as a dominant junior and all these young guys with a year under their belt

Gotta agree with Doug here unless A.J. explodes. If he keeps putting up 25 like he did against VCU then the story may change. But I don't see A.J. going to the pros after this year. He's an excellent fundamental ballplayer but I think he lacks the ever-desired "upside" that pros crave to draft him young. Considering that the philosophy this year appears to be to spread the ball around to make up for Shan's absence, that might make A.J. a less appealing pick numbers wise.

I think we all hope Ogilvy does not explode.

AJ IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE ANYTIME SOON!!!!!!
A) He is not that good
B) He does not have a pro-build..yet
C) He needs to develop all aspects of his game

He will stay at least 3 years, if not 4.
