First injury of the year and it's a big one, but you gotta be happy that it happened so early in the process. Brett Hait's all over George Smith's stress fracture. Smith is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday and will likely miss the first game of the year against Miami of Ohio.
Smith is no stranger to perseverance however, having overcome a potentially fatal case of transverse myelitis that kept him out of the 2005 season. He has made great strides since then in his playmaking and leadership abilities, becoming a spokesman for Vanderbilt at SEC Media Days and making a tremendous catch in Vanderbilt's upset of #6 (at the time) South Carolina last year.
This means that senior Sean Walker and junior Justin Wheeler will need to step up big in camp, while RS freshman Udom Umoh and true freshman John Cole will have an opportunity to show what they can do. Don't forget about Clemson transfer Andrew Diomande, and then you have the athletic D.J. Moore and Jamie Graham to help out as well.

Normally I hate Pat Forde but in a solid article for espn.com he talks about how crazy talented the SEC coaches are and manages not to $#!% all over Vanderbilt for the first time ever.

i don't remember this much press on vandy football in the past. seems like the vucommdores.com site is doing a lot better giving us updates and also the city paper and tennessean seem to have more articles than normal. maybe i just haven't been this pumped or paid this much attention before but exciting none the less
i'm surprised bobby o'shea isn't all over this favre-to-the-jets deal. i guess he's always been a huge chad pennington fan though.
