Georgia Captures SEC Title on Hawkins Field

Tough way to lose a series. After going down 12-4, cutting the lead to 3 in the eighth, and having a shot to tie in the ninth, Vanderbilt came up just short against Georgia closer Josh Fields in the rubber match of a hard-fought weekend series in Nashville. Today's 12-10 defeat followed Saturday's 4-2 losing effort, a game in which the Commies led throughout until the Dawgs tied it in the bottom of the ninth and went on to win in extra innings.

Hopes were high that Vanderbilt (37-15, 15-11 SEC) could catch up to UGA (33-17-1, 19-7-1) in the league standings after Friday's thrilling 13-7 Graduation Day win, especially while Caleb Cotham was on the mound yesterday afternoon putting together a 7-inning, 3-hit shutout performance. In the end it wasn't enough, and Georgia heads back to Athens this evening with the Regular Season SEC Championship in hand. Silver lining? We saw how much good winning the SEC title did us last year in the CWS. Maybe this team learns from taking a few in the chin and rallies with their backs against the wall.

Final note: A friend of mine who went to Princeton would like me to make it known that Princeton's women's lacrosse team beat Vanderbilt earlier today by a score of 14-10 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Feel free to berate him publicly.

Its Hawkins field. However, I will be awaiting the day where the Dawgs have to fend off the Commodores in Dudley for the football crown.

VU's baseball team is now set up for the NCAAs with no spotlight and no expectations, unlike last year.

Has Nickson found his 2006 mojo yet?

A "mojo nixon" reference...from the classic 1980s days of college radio.

Who could ever forget the MTV satire from Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper - "Stuffin Martha's Muffin"

On the other hand, fast forward to 2008 - american idol still sucks.
