VSL Hotline: Commie Nuggets

It looks like Vanderbilt's first two games of the 2008 football season will be on the ESPN family of networks. The Commodores will travel to Miami, Ohio to play the Red Hawks of Miami University on August 28th. Vanderbilt's home-opener is the next Thursday in Nashville against South Carolina. While ESPN hasn't announced their schedule (that I know of yet), I have to think a Thursday night SEC match-up, especially after Vanderbilt beat USC in Columbia last season, will get Fowler and the gang to Nashville.

Dennis Dillon's got a great feature on The Sporting News' webiste about Chris Williams that is definitely worth a read. More great pub for Vanderbilt sports.

Brett Hait's reporting in today's Nashville City Paper that Vanderbilt will start a 2-game series with the Illini of Illinois beginning this upcoming season.

Mo Patton reported in yesterday's Tennessean that Vanderbilt Stadium and football facilities will be getting some much needed upgrades.

Finally, Vanderbilt baseball won their two mid-week games by knocking off Lipscomb on Tuesday (8-1) and Western Kentucky (5-1). Vanderbilt has won 7 straight and will host Auburn for a 3-game series this weekend. Vanderbilt is currently 26-10 overall, 8-6 in SEC play.

Rumor around the blogosphere is that Oregon might be cooling on Tinsley and pursuing a different recruit. Tinsley apparently wants to start right away, which goes in Vandy's favor big time.

Word is that we're in a REAL good position to get Jeff Taylor too.

This is a random thought, but is it too out there to say that one person committing might have an effect on how the other commits? For instance, if Tinsley goes with us, could that get Taylor even more excited to play for the Dores?

Just food for thought.

I like Tinsley and hope he signs but i dont like the fact that these guys think they should be starting from the day they walk onto campus.
