Vanderbilt is currently ranked #25 in this week's ESPN/USA Today Poll. The AP has us ranked #23.
What did you think about Saturday's game against Tech? What are you looking out for aganist Wake?
We are hoping to do a Q&A exchange with a Wake Forest blog, but with exams on the horizon, it's possible we won't.
I was particularly impressed with the entire team on Saturday. Despite the final score, the game was never close. Vanderbilt finally having an inside presence will open up a lot of things for this team. They are deep, athletic, and for the first time in a long time, look like a team that can (and wants) to bang. Big test coming up on Wednesday aganist Wake, but based on what we've seen so far, there is reason to think it could be a great year in Memorial.
Finally, am I the only one in Commodore Nation who is really looking forward to EGG's Buckeyes getting their second straight beat-down in the BCS National Championship to an SEC School?

I don't see Wake as a legitimate threat to give the Dores their first loss. If anyone else watched the Wake-Iowa game they saw a struggling offense and an athletic but not overwhelming defense. In fact, Iowa's offensive ineptitude was more to blame for their low point output. James Johnson shot miserably at Carver-Hawkeye and the Deacs offense suffered noticeably. Take him out of the game with Shan et al and it should limit the rest of the team. The Commies experience and the Memorial bench alignment should be enough to overwhelm the young (1 Jr 0 Sr see major minutes) Deacons. Commies by 12.
I don't know much about Wake but i think it is a real important game simply because the SEC looks to be down this year and going 8-8, 9-7 in league play might not be enough to get a team in the NCAA's. Since we have no idea how the league sched will work out it is real important we rack up as many solid non-conf wins as possible
'bout time for some respect. hopefully we can hang on. big game wednesday. if you don't think wake is a threat your crazy.
I think DJ is exactly right -- this is one of those "resume games" that people remember on Selection Sunday. With that said, from what I've seen so far out of this team I'll be surprised if we're on the bubble come March...we should be in without question.
This is the most balanced and deep Vanderbilt team we've had in a long time. Our big men can handle the ball and make free throws, our backcourt guys can rebound and drive to the basket. One of the biggest advantages this team has is unselfishness. As of now, we're #10 in the nation in scoring, #12 in field goal percentage, and #12 in assists per game.
We still need to work on not allowing offensive rebounds and not turning the ball over (with as many assists as we get, the A/T ratio is not what it needs to be).
Wake's defense will be the biggest test we've had so far this season. I predict a close game throughout, and a six-point Commie win on the back of quality free-throw shooting down the stretch.
...and the Patriots are getting beat by the Ravens.
Remember all the talk about jinxes? I blame Seamus......and maybe the refs for allowing the Pats to win last night.....God I hate Boston
The Patriots' defense is vulnerable. If they meet a team in the playoffs with a decent running game/ball control offense, (i.e., not Baltimore, who hasn't a prayer w/o McNair) they could definitely lose...they've already been exposed by Westbrook and McGahee. Not to mention the precision passing of AJ Feeley and Kyle Boller.
Go Pats.... a win is a win. It's amazing how mediocre teams play like playoff calibre teams against us. Kyle Boller is terrible yet make Brady-esque plays. Just wait till next week when the Ravens roll over against their next opponent.
Yet, as always, Patriots D- Game > Everyone Else's A+ Game.
And yes, our defense is good, not great, and the weather played to Baltimore's strengths, as well as the fact that they, along with all other Baltimore teams, have nothing else to play for.
Jets 27
Pats 23
The Mangenius gets his revenge
JB - let me help you.
I'm not a Pats fan. Personally I hope Belichek tears his ACL while crawling out from that cardboard box he lives in. BUT, instead of trying to justify why the Patriots won despite some advantages Baltimore might have had (they didn't have any), next time respond with:
"Scoreboard."
You're welcome.
B in the D
I can't wait to trash bobby all over this blog in 12.5 days.
NE Pats 52
NJ Jets 3 (In terms of skill at his position, Nugent is alone on this team)
If JB is giving 49, I'll take that action
I would love to see Pats go undefeated then lose to the Browns in the playoffs. Definitely deserved for the most overrated and overhyped team in NFL history. The Eagles and Ravens didn't play that much better than they normally do...they just played a worse defense.
Yeah, the Pats are pretty overhyped. Outscoring your opponents by nearly 22 points a game for 12 games is nothing noteworthy (what is this, Oklahoma running roughshod through a non-conference schedule?).
I think Tom Brady's play isn't hyped enough, being 2 TDs a game away from the single season record set by Satan Manning.
Just keep dishing out your hatred, that's what you're good at. We'll continue what we're good at: winning football games and dating supermodels.
