SEC/Pac 10 Rivalry = SI taking a shot at Vanderbilt

In reporting on the newly minted war of words between LSU and USC, Stewart Mandel takes a shot at Vanderbilt on SI.com. For that, he can bite me and the rest of Commodore Nation.

Thoughts?

This is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure Mandel wrote this entire article just so he could get in those shots about the Big Ten teams beating SEC teams in bowl games (Mandel went to Northwestern).

I don't have much of a problem with Miles saying those things to get a crowd of LSU fans fired up (in my experience, most LSU fans are certifiably insane and feed off that sort of thing). But I wouldn't want my coach talking smack to the media, and certainly not about USC. You prove your worth on the field, and that's all there is to it.

More importantly: Who cares? This is not the first time coaches have knocked other programs or publicly joined the voices of the bloggers. I guess he just needed something to write about.

This is all the more reason to look forward to beating the pants off of Northwestern once we start playing them, as Stewart Mandel has clearly taken an unprovoked and unwarranted shot at Vanderbilt that calls for a measure of revenge. But I'll stop my rant here and look forward to the Commies proving on the field why they're better than Mandel's alma mater.

That's right, Stewie boy -- I'm calling you out.

Mandel is an idiot for even thinking that the PAC-10 is in the same league as the SEC. Especially his justification of the PAC-10s superiority by stating "Well, USC beat Arkansas 50-14".

If that game gets played at the end of the season it's a hell of a lot closer. Even still, that isn't the point of the argument. USC is good, national title good, but is their schedule easy? Absolutely. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place teams in the Pac-10 can't hold a candle to SEC competition. The Pac-10 was 3-3 in Bowl games, with Cal beating an overrated Texas A&M team (by the way Cal got stomped by the 5th best team in the SEC last year, our hated Tennessee Vols). The SEC was 6-3 with two BCS wins, one of which was a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

USC has the easy road year in and year out, not even mentioning the fact that there is no championship game.

Jesus when is SI going to realize that we're smarter than who they have writing. Just kidding, sort of.

Let me tell you something. If Darren McFadden had been running with 10 toes, and Casey Dick (NOT Mitch Mustain) had been at the helm, we would've beaten USC last year.

USC has more talent than anyone this year.. They have the best quarterback and runningback talent in the nation! They will play for the national title. If they played in the SEC they would have a much tougher schedule, but there is nothing that you can do about that. Do you guys really think LSU has a chance to play for the national title this year???
