Vanderbilt Hotline

I couldn't come up with a clever title. I thought about it for 30 whole seconds, and nothing. So...sorry about that.

Commodore nation will be watching Major League Baseball's amateur draft to see in what farm system their beloved Commies will be playing in. According to the St. Petersburg Times, the Devil Rays have "zeroed in on Vanderbilt Pitcher." Chris Graham's got a similar piece in today's Tennessean, as does Brett Hait in today's Nashville City Paper, who speculates that "Price could be right for Devil Rays." When Price makes it big in the Majors, how over-used will "The Price is Right" references be? I can only imagine. Rounding out the Price watch, Johan Keri has an interview with the lefty that appears on ESPN.com.

According to the Sacramento Bee, the San Francisco Giants appear interested in using their first round pick on Vanderbilt closer Casey Weathers. If Vanderbilt has two players selected in the first round, it will be a proud day for Commie baseball. Don't believe me? Why else would VUCommodores.com have a link up to MLB's "Draft Central"?

As Hait points out in his City Paper article, Coach Corbin is "prepared to lose junior outfielder Dominic de la Osa, who exploded offensively this year and earned first-team All-America honors. De la Osa batted .378 with 20 home runs." More from Brett, "other draft-eligible Commodores include senior outfielder Matt Meingasner, junior second baseman Alex Feinberg, junior pitchers Ty Davis and Cody Crowell, junior outfielder David Macias and junior catcher Shea Robin." I am hoping the vast majority of these guys opt for another year in college to finish what this team started this season. While I will be on the road, I know the guys will be updating you throughout the day on how the draft proceeds and what it means for Commodore baseball.

Si.com's got a mock draft with David Price going #1 to the D-Rays, and Weathers going #10 to the Giants.

According to Hait's second story in the City Paper, sophomore pitcher Josh Zeid is exploring the option of transferring, Jonathan Goff and Earl Bennett were named to the Birmingham News’ first team pre-season All-SEC Team, while offensive tackle Chris Williams was named to the second team. Finally, the proof is in the pudding (or rating, in this case), as CSS' coverage of the Nashville Regional put up a HUGE number with a 6.8 on Sunday, and 6.0 on Monday. I don't know what any of that means, but it sounds pretty good.

Pedro, Dominic, David, and Casey were all named to Rivals.com's All-America team. Shortstop Ryan Flaherty was named to the second-team, while Matt Minor was named to Collegiate Baseball's Freshman All-America team. Here's the release from VUCommodores.com.

Another VUCommodores.com release writes that "Vanderbilt rising juniors Jacqui Concolino and Amber Lundskog both continue to advance at the 92nd annual Women's Southern Golf Association Amateur Championship after posting another round of match play victories Wednesday at Riverchase Country Club."

Rollbamaroll.com goes through Vanderbilt's schedule today. Tomorrow, it's our turn. Their coverage this week has been very good and you all should definitely check it out.

This is my last Hotline of the week as I will be out of town tomorrow, but I am sure the guys will pick up the slack. Give our latest podcast a listen and let us know how awesome or awful you think we are. I assure you, we can take it.
