Vanderbilt Hotline: All the Vanderbilt News That I Can Find, Edition

For a Monday in late June, there are a surpringly large number of stories about Vanderbilt sports. With that said, let's get right to it.

VUCommodores.com's Will Matthews has a column feature on the return of running back Jeff Jennings. Jennings will be a key piece to Vanderbilt's offensive puzzle. While we will be doing an authoritative preview of this year's team in the days and weeks to come, I think it is fair to say that this team's ability to control the ball will be significant as they look to have their first winning season since 1982.

Staying with the "return" theme, Brett Hait has a piece in today's Nashville City Paper on the progress of OT Brian Stamper. Brian was granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA in January after missing his final 7 games last season. Much has been (and will continue to be) made about the Commies' offensive line, and Stamper will be a big piece of that puzzle.

While it's not Vanderbilt football, a former Commie, Bill Alford, is having some success in NFL Europe according to Michael Preston's article in Saturday's Tennessean.

Moving to baseball, Pedro Alvarez went 3-4 in Team USA's 5-0 win over Montpelier (VT) on Friday. Matt Minor earned the W for Team USA's 5-4 win over Newport (RI) yesterday.

Staying with sports that involve bats, the DC Dores beat The Ohio State University badly. I don't know the final score because it hasn't be updated on the site yet. Suffice it to say, we won, they didn't, and the DC Dores are now 6-4 on the season.

Vanderbilt PhD candidate in Audiology Grace Gore was named Miss Tennessee on Saturday according to Sunday's Tennessean. Congratulations Grace.

After a few weeks off, I am back with my Entourage updates. I thought last night's episode was fantastic. I love the ark they are setting up with E and Vince not being on the same page on whether Medellin is a good movie or not. Billy Walsh is a fantastic character and adds a lot to the story. Ari's struggles to get his son (who, as far as I can tell, just appeared since throughout the entire show we have only seen Ari's relationship with his daughter) into private school are fantastic and hit relatively close to home having grown up in NYC. One complaint is the "break" with Sloane that E casually mentioned in passing. It didn't have to be much, but this should have been addressed on-screen rather between E and Sloane rather then flippantly mentioned in passing given how much of a show her relationship with E had become. It's just like what the West Wing did between Seasons 1 and 2. As some of you remember, season 1 ends with an assassination attempt on President Bartlett, when the shooting takes place in Rosalyn, Mandy, the political consultant and formed love-interest of Josh Lyman (Deputy White House Chief of Staff) was at the event and featured in the final montage. However, when the show resumed its second season, she was no where to be found. It was a shooting, just have her be killed and be done with it. It could have been done before the second commercial break. Instead, she just vanished. Don't think we don't notice that stuff, because we do.
