Live-Blogging the Elimination Game: Austin Peay

FINAL SCORE: Vanderbilt 11 - AP 5
It seems that whenever this Commodore team needs a big performance from one of their pitchers, they get it. Such was the case again today as Ty Davis came in to relieve Cody Crowell. Davis gave Corbin 5.1 innings, scattering 3 hits, recording 8 KOs, and only allowing 1 BB. Vanderbilt, as Joe Fisher - who really does do an absolutely fantastic job in the booth for the Commodores - said, will now have to do this the hard way. They will take on Michigan at 7pm local time and as of yet, it is not clear why CTC will send to the mound. Vanderbilt, despite already having played 3 games this weekend, is not totally without arms. They could throw Jacobson, Christani, or Roden out there to start. They gotta win this one to have a shot, but they are still in it.

I won't be live-blogging the next game, but I will try and post something after the Michigan game (hopefully a recap of another win, and a preview of Vanderbilt's game tomorrow against Michigan).

Hope you enjoyed the live blogging. Bobby, OUT

Bottom of the 9th:
Cheshire led off the inning with a single, and advanced to 2nd on a sacrifice (meant to be a base hit) bunt. Runner advanced to third on another sacrifice round-out to 1B. Vanderbilt is one out away from a re-match with Michigan in a little under 90 minutes.

Game note/Top of the 9th:
If anyone reading this is heading over to tonight's second game, please bring Joe Fisher a sandwich in the booth. He's been mentioning food since the 6th inning and I think he's hungry.

Top of the 8th:
Ben Wilshire was the losing pitcher on Friday. He will face Ryan Flaherty, who is a triple short of the cycle. A base hit for Flaherty gets under the RF's glove. Pedro scored and Ryan was caught trying to take 3rd. Ryan is 5 for 5.
Vanderbilt 11 - AP 5, Developing...

After walking Pedro on 4 straight pitches, AP's going to the bullpen.
Developing...

Bottom of the 7th:

Vanderbilt squanders an infield hit from Alex Feinberg when Dominic grounded into the

Game note:
Through 5, Vanderbilt has left 8 runners on base.

Top of the 5th:
Dominic hustled down the line to beat out the throw to first. French scores.
Dominic got his 20th stolen base to eliminate the force to second. With 2 outs, Pedro looking to break the game wide open, swung at a 3-0 pitch and lifted a weak pop to the outfield.

Bottom of the 4th:
Ty Davis into pitch for the Commies. 1 on, 2 outs.
Vanderbilt 7 - AP 5

Bottom of the 4th:

Developing...
Vanderbilt 7 - AP 5

Top of the 4th:
1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 LOB
Vanderbilt 7 - AP 4

Top of the 4th:
Flaherty, as Joe Fisher just pointed out, is 3/4 of the way to a cycle (needs a triple to complete it). Another call to the bullpen for the Governor's as they bring in Vicini to try and get out of the 4th. Meingasner beats Vicini in a footrace to 1st on a routine grounder to the pitcher. Parker Hanks steps in with 2 on and 2 out.
Developing...
Vanderbilt 7 - AP 4

Top of the 4th:
Dominic goes yard with a blast to right center to get the run back for the Commies. That is De la Osa's 20th HR and 61st RBI. Dominic needs one stolen base to join the 20/20 club.
Developing...
Vanderbilt 7 - AP 4

Bottom of the 3rd.
Governor's get one back on a sacrifice fly.
Vanderbilt 6 - AP 4

Bottom of the 3rd:
The first two Governor's reach, one with a single, the other on an error by Pedro.
2 on, 1 out.
Developing...
Vanderbilt 6 - AP 3

Top of the 3rd:
Vanderbilt bats around as Brad French steps up to plate for his second at bat of the inning. For the second time, and as Joe Fisher points out maybe the first time ever, Brad French gets hit by a pitch twice in the same inning. That'll be it Ryne Mantooth who gave up 6 runs in 2.2 innings of work. Vanderbilt sent 11 guys to the plate in the 3rd. Crowell with a new lease on life after the bats come alive.
6 runs, 5 hits, 1 errors, 2 LOB
Vanderbilt 6 - AP 3

Top of the 3rd:
OH BABY...3 run shot for Flaherty.
Vanderbilt 6 - AP 3

Top of the 3rd:
Pedro digs himself an 0-2 hole before driving a signle to left. Pedro has a 24 game hit streak and his first 2 RBI's in the tournament. Runners at the corners, still nobody out.
Commies 3 - AP 3

Top of the 3rd:
Alex Feinberg drive the runner home with a single up the middle. De la Osa steps to the plate, with a decision as to whether the Corbin should have Dominic bunt the runners over...he took a big cut at the first pitch. De la Osa bunted the second pitch back the pitcher who bare-headed and bobbled the ball. Runners safe. Based loaded and there is life at Hawkins Field. Pedro comes to the plate...
Developing
AP 3 - Commies 1

Top of the 3rd:
Macias drove the 3-2, giving the Commies runners at the corners with nobody out. As Joe Fisher just said, Vandy needs to get something here...Alex Feinberg steps to the plate hoping to get the Commies on the board.
Developing...

Top of the 3rd:
Brad French hit by a pitch to give Vanderbilt their lead-off man aboard. In listening, I can't help but think from a confidence stand-point, Vanderbilt's gotta get something in the top half of the 3rd.
Developing...

Bottom of the 2nd:
Runner advances to 3rd on a wild pitch from Crowell. As Fisher said, Vanderbilt's air of confidence, is at present, no where to be found. No more damage.
1 run, 2 hits, 1 error, 1 LOB. The bats need to come alive here...
AP 3 - Commies 0

Bottom of the 2nd:
A gift for Vanderbilt came in the form a a base-running mistake by AP that erased a 1 out double. Vanderbilt gave it back with an over-throw from Shea Robin on an attempt to catch a Governor stealing. Runner advanced to 3rd and the runner scores on AP's 4th extra-base hits. Cody will have to be on a short leach today.
AP 3 - Vanderbilt 0
Developing...

Top of the 2nd:
Shea can't bring the runners in as he strikes out.
0 Runs, 1 hit, 0 errors, 2 LOB.
AP 2 - Commies 0

Top of the 2nd:
Meingasner popped up in the infield. Parker Hanks lined a double base-hit to left center. Joe Fisher said a great play by the center fielder kept the run from scoring. Shea Robin coming to the plate with 2 RISP. Shea is hitless in the Regional.
Developing...

Top of the 2nd:
Pedro meekly flew out to the SS in shallow left center. The wind has been a factor early. Ryan Flaherty extended his hit streak to 33 (a Vanderbilt record) with a base-knock up the middle to give Vanderbilt their first base runner of the day. Developing...

Bottom of the 1st:
Joe Fisher just made the point that Cody isn't fooling anyone early. As the first progressed though, it appeared he was at least starting to find the plate. Austin Peay strikes first.
2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on.
After 1: AP 2 - Commies 0

Bottom of 1st:
Cody Crowell's 6th start of the year doesn't go as he would hope as the Governor's CF Raefael Hill started off the game with a double. Worse, Cody fell behind 2 of the first 3 batters he faced. Tyler Farrar jacked a 2-run shot to give AP an early 2-0 lead. 1 out with the Cody having some control issues early.

Top of 1st:
Vanderbilt's bats continue to lay doriminate in the first.
0 runs, 0 hits, 0 men left on.
The Governor's coming to bat...

We are underway in Nashville. With last night's loss, Vanderbilt is the away team in today's game aganist Austin Peay.
