Vanderbilt Hotline: The Whole Package

Commodore Nation will be anxiously watching as South Carolina and Arkansas tip-off in the opening round of the SEC Tournament today at 3:15 pm. Alabama and Kentucky get things started at 1, with Georgia and Auburn kicking off the night session at 7, and LSU/Tennessee finishing up tonight. I personally think the UT/LSU game has the potential to be a very very good one. Before 1pm Eastern, make sure to get your picks in for SEC Tournament Pick'em.

Derrick Byars, fresh off his recognition as SEC Player of the Year by the SEC Coaches, is getting a ton of ink. As always, the Nashville City Paper and The Tennessean cover it best. Kevin Stallings, voted SEC Coach of the Year by the SEC Coaches, also gets some run.

There is an exceptionally flattering piece about Vanderbilt Athletics in the wake of Gee's decision to turn the Athletic Department into DeFKA in today's USA Today. Since no one reading this blog is likely to be a business traveler who has the USA Today neatly placed outside their rooms, designed to be read on their way to the complementary continental breakfast and the shuttle to the airport, here is the link. I would also say, that inevitably, the bagels at these continental breakfasts are awful, but the muffins of danishes are excellent. Why is that?

Have you "Banded Together" yet?

Bobby and Seamus are taking the show on the road this weekend, so those of you in the DC Area will not be able to take advantage of Bobby's desire to turn is cave into a sports bar. Thankfully, the Vanderbilt Alumni Association will be hosting a viewing party on Saturday at Sumner's in Arlington. The game will tip off at 1pm. Atlanta area readers, check out the Atlanta chapter's page. If you are going to the game tomorrow, you can meet up with other Commie fans before the game at McCormick & Schmick's, located inside Atlanta's CNN Center. If you are in Atlanta and not attending the tournament, head over to Dantanna's which will serve as the viewing spot for all games as Vandy progresses through the tournament. You got questions, email Bliss Stone. If there are Vanderbilt events in your area and you want us to shout them out, email us (not Bliss)

A note to our 7 Readers: The Big Guy's column will be on hiatus until April. It is VSL's policy not to comment on on-going legal proceedings, suffice it to say the Big Guy is using his creativity against the Commonwealth of Virginia. If you are reading this and would be willing to offer your legal expertise to the giant one, email us at Vandysports@gmail.com and we will put you in touch.

We are hoping to unveil something BIG tomorrow, so keep checking back.
Also, the Vanderbilt Sports Line will be "sponsoring" an NCAA Tournament Bracket Challenge. If you have a better idea for the name (and surely someone must!), please let us know. In the mean time, you can register here.

Finally, I will just say that Melinda Doolittle from Brentwood, Tennessee is absolutely fantastic and is my early favorite to become the next American Idol. Yes, I watch American Idol, and so should you.
