Vanderbilt Skyrockets in the Polls: AP 17, Coaches 21

When you beat the number one team in the country, you deserve a little bit of respect. Considering how little Vanderbilt has gotten since 2001, my first year of attendance, I have to say that this is one of the most exciting weeks I have experienced as a Commodore.

After Vandy's walloping of Florida (and yes, we destroyed them, there is no other way to put it), Vanderbilt skyrocketed from unranked to 17th in the AP Poll. Even our oh so beloved hosers at the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll decided to give us a top 25 ranking (shame on them for not putting us in the top 20, in my opinion).

To be honest with you, I can't remember exactly what the highest ranking was for our 2003-2004 sweet sixteen team, but I can only imagine we're fast approaching (if we haven't surpassed that already). In any case, I believe this ranking to be a very pleasant surprise, as well as warranted. Perhaps we're finally getting out of the shadows and earning the respect we deserve.
