Getting Ready for National Signing Day...

Coach Bobby Johnson and Commodore Nation will be anxiously awaiting the official word from the 14 high school seniors who have already verbally committed to the Commies. According to Scouts, Inc. Vanderbilt currently has the 63 best recruiting class in the country (last in the SEC), with Rivals.com classifying the in-coming Commie class as the 65th best in America. Vanderbilt has always been good about finding hidden gems (remember Jay Cutler?), and there is no reason to think that Bobby and his boys haven't done more of the same this year.

The cream of the crop for this year's class is Memphis University School DE John Stokes. Not only does John's 1530 SAT score make him smarter than most readers of this blog, but he is rated a 4-star recruit by Rivals.com and rated as the #65 outside linebacker in this year's recruiting class by Scouts.com. John has been committed to Vanderbilt for some time and is clearly well aware of the Commies penchant for helping mold fantastic linebackers. Stokes will have no better example to learn from then returning senior, linebacker Jonathan Goff.

While there is always movement on national signing day, we at the Vanderbilt Sports Line will be paying particularly close attention to Alabama Quarterback Larry Smith. Smith is the highest rated player committed to Vanderbilt according to Scouts.com, and if he ends up at Vanderbilt, will be the second player Coach Bobby has lured a highly touted Alabama quarterback to Nashville. Smith has left open the possibility of entertaining last minute offers from either Alabama power, and with the Nick Saban back on the recruiting scene and the Tide in need of a quality QB, this one might not exactly be in the bag just yet.
