Watching the Sausage get Made....
It wasn’t pretty, but the Commies rised above .500 tonight with a 59-50 win over Lipscomb. Vanderbilt trailed at the half, but was able to get the Bisons into foul trouble early in the second and take advantage. After the 38-38 tie, Vanderbilt went on a 21-12 run to pull away. With that said, this was a terrible game. We shot the ball poorly from the floor, going 19 of 52 from the field, and 4-17 from behind the arc. If it wasn’t for Lipscomb getting into foul trouble, and the Commies shooting 81% from the charity stripe, it is not at all clear whether or not we would win this game. The one positive is that we were able to take care of the basketball, only turning the ball over 9 times in the entire game. After losing the battle on the glass in the first half, Vanderbilt was able to bear down in the final period and end the game with a 37-27 rebounding edge. This game was ugly, and there is no reason to be confident going into Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech. With that said, a win is a win, and the Commies are above .500 for the first time all year. What happens on Saturday is anyone’s guess.
