good call on asking Ballerz... I completetly forgot about that blog after BB season.

Hopefully the extra expereience for CJG, return of Jennings (I'm lovin' what Joe Fisher is saying about him on 104.5 almost every morning) and more carries for Hawkins will boost the run game... some consistency would be very nice.

My guess is that last year with a 1st year starting qb and an offensive line with significant injuries (Stamper) CBJ didn't want a freshman tailback carrying the ball too much. He wanted someone who could pass block and bowl over the defense. I would love to see Hawkins get more carries this year as well. Though i still think he will be the 3rd option and more a change of pace back.

thanks for the reply... I'm sure coach Steve Martin has his reasons for holding him back, but I'm just not sure what they may be. I'm dumbfounded that I never heard or read any of the Nashville media offer any insight (or at least some wild speculation) on why, yet LaMarcus Coker could pass gas at a Wendy's and get a blurb about it.

Must be that east-Tennessee bias!

I'll try and get a better answer, in the meantime, in looking at the game by games, I can't honestly tell you why Hawkins didn't get more touches than he did. The most carries Jared got in any game was 9 aganist Duke and UT, and 7 aganist TSU. He definitely is a change of pass to either CGJ or Jennings and perhaps the plan is to hold him back to keep teams off balance. With that said, I would be shocked if his carries don't at least double this season.

does anyone know why Hawkins didn't get more carries last year? He consistently hit the holes CJG danced around and ripped of very good gains...

I know he was a frosh, but just 43 carries? the only thing I could tell myself was that he must fumble like crazy in practice or be completely unable to pass block...
