Turns Out, South Carolina is Good; Gamecocks Beat Vanderbilt 3-1

Vanderbilt falls 3-1, behind a dynamic pitching performance from South Carolina's Michael Roth (7.2 IP, 1 ER, 3 Hits, 8 Ks, and 2 BB). Roth was relieved by Matt price, who struck out all 4 batters he faced.

Sonny Gray had a great outing in his own right, going 7 2/3 innings, while allowing 3 earned runs, surrendering 11 hits, and striking out 7. The Commodores got just 3 hits, none of which were from Anthony Gomez, who's 29-game hitting streak was snapped.

The Commodores will be back at it tomorrow at 6pm central on CSS and ESPN3.com where Vanderbilt will hope to even the series. For what its worth, the Commodores were the only team in the top 8 to lose tonight.

For what it's worth, we were also the only top 8 team playing another top 8 team if that stat is true...

Another thing worth mentioning, Vanderbilt dropped a heart-breaker 2-1 in their Friday match-up against Arkansas. The Commodores ended up winning the next 2 and taking the series in Fayetteville.
