Sonny Gray (5-1, 1.51 ERA) is set to take the mound for the #1 Commodores today at 6 pm CST, with Anthony Gomez riding a 21-game hitting streak. You can watch the Dores on TV tomorrow at 6, when this week's SEC Pitcher of the Week Grayson Garvin (4-1, 2.45) will be on the bump. Tomorrow's game will be aired on CSS and ESPN3.com. Game 3 of the series is set for 1 pm on Sunday.
You can check out the game notes here. I don't have much to say to preview the matchup except that I think this is an important series for the Dores. We're in a three-way tie with #4 Florida and #3 South Carolina for first place in the East, and those teams have home series against Tennessee and Kentucky respectively. Neither UT nor UK looks particularly strong this year, so we should anticipate a couple of sweeps from the Gators and Gamecocks, meaning a sweep over Auburn may be needed to keep the Dores apace in the division. In contrast to UT and UK, Auburn is a pretty solid team that has been on the cusp of the Top 25 all year, having just dropped out of the Baseball America Top 25 this week.
It seems no one wants to face off against our trio of weekend starters, and it's no different down on the Plains, where they consider Gray, Garvin, and Taylor Hill to be pitchers "who could probably be the No. 1 guy just about anywhere."
