ESPN.com Talking About Taylor's Shooting Woes and How It Impacts His Draft Stock

ESPN.com's "Rumor Central" is the the best/worst when it comes to baseless but fun speculation. But that's OK cause I love to engage in baseless speculation. This morning in the NCAA Basketball Rumor Central someone named Joe Kaiser talks about Vandy's own Jeff Taylor....but not really in a good way:

Looking closer at Taylor's shooting woes, Jeremy Lundblad of ESPN Stats & Info writes: "He went 2-for-18 from the field [last night against Georgia], and is just 3-for-25 over the last two games. It's the worst shooting performance (min. 15 attempts) by an SEC player since Florida's Matt Walsh went 1-for-15 against Alabama in 2004."

Could this alone be enough to keep Taylor at Vandy for another season as he tries to raise his draft stock? It's definitely something to keep an eye on after the season.

It is beyond dispute that JT has had a rough go of it shooting in his last 2 games. However, looking at any 2 games in isolation is incredibly dangerous. Consider that in the 2 games prior to Joe Kaiser's window, Taylor was 12-23 from the field including 8-9 from downtown. Last I checked, 89% from 3 is pretty good. The bigger issue (and one ignored in Kaiser's "analysis") is JT's inability to finish around the rim. By my count, JT is 6-46 (15%) from inside the arc in his last 5 games. JT's problem isn't shooting, it's finishing around the rim.

Start dunking and quit the pretty stuff. He'll be in Europe next year if he goes to draft. One more year at VU!

Bobby is that a legit count? I've been commiserating with friends about his terrible finishing, but usually tend toward hyperbole. Scary to think it's actually been that brutal.

Those numbers are contingent on my ability to go math. Even if they aren't exact, they are pretty damn close.
