David Williams Speaks

Footballscoop.com recaps Vice Chancellor David Williams' conversation with the 3 Hour Lunch crew on 104.5 The Zone here in Nashville. To listen to the entire interview, click here then select "Vandy VU on football Coach search" on 104.5 The Zone's Home Page.

The most interesting thing from the interview: “I want to know about the national aspect of recruiting and I want to know who and how you will build your staff ... Not only from a philosophy standpoint, but I’d like to hear actual names.”

More from VCDW: "We are committed to being competitive."

Either DW's a close-talker, or the phone line to his underground coach-hiring bunker is getting a little frayed.

Good find, Bobby.

Sounds to me like we are no closer to ANY coach than we were since day 1...

Good interview. Vanderbilt really let the story get away from them. Unfortunately, this only does a small part to undue some of the PR damage from the past week.

Regarding money, it was very interesting to hear him speak to what the salary range is. It's more than we've payed before but less than Spurrier (who has won a Nat Champ).

Also, no dome stadium...

This is insane. Just hire Franklin! We are going to dick around and wind up in worse spot than we were at the end of the season. I appreciate his concerns but good god, just pull the triger and hire someone. This is proof we need an AD.

I agree, on Monday when we didn’t get Malzahn I was “ok” with it bc I believe VCDW gave it everything he had, and I still do. However, the damage control on the “leak” about Malzahn being offered the job was horrendous and embarrassing. VCDW should have shut that down FAST, but he didn’t. I said it this morning, I have a feeling this Franklin thing is going to fall through too. Then what? Roman has already pulled out and looking at this search… its turning into a joke and who would want to be affiliated with this mess. What are we paying the searching firm to do too?

I think it only appears to be a joke to those few hundred or so Vandy fans that give a hoot. I had lunch at my Country Club today with a group that included several Auburn fans etc, and they were just happy they kept Malzahn. Nothing was mentioned about VU being ebarrassed. I would rather us show some sack and do something different and be turned down by a host of good candidates than to settle on a no name.

Greg M that sounds like a great idea! We should be paying you too to help with the search
